*Records of the Grand Historian* records Taicui Ling Song Jian saying: "You have an illness. Four or five days ago, your waist and hypochondrium hurt, you could not flex or extend, and you could not urinate. If not treated urgently, the disease will enter and nourish the Kidney. Before it settles in the Five Zang Organs, treat it urgently. Now the disease is just residing in the moistening aspect of the Kidney; this is what is called Kidney Bi." Song Jian said: "I previously had lumbar and spinal pain. Four or five days ago, I moved stones and could not rise; when I put them down, in the evening my lumbar and spinal pain prevented me from urinating. It has not healed until now. My disease is what is called Kidney Bi." His disease was caused by a preference for carrying heavy loads. He was made to sit in medicinal baths and take medicine, and his illness healed in eighteen days. Thus, lumbar and spinal injury from bearing heavy loads leading to disease entering the Kidney can be treated by moxibustion on Shenshu (BL23).
