Heaven and Earth interact, and humans are the most spiritual. Women lack the Ding Wei, Left Dong, Right Peng, and Chu Bu bones, totaling five bones, having only 360 bones. Additionally, men and women share 190 bones, some with Chen or lacking Shi/Marrow potential, totaling 1,256 bones, all possessing Marrow and Fluid, used to store tendons and connect to pulse streams, mutually relying to form the body shape, called the Four Greats. This is the standard of bone measurement.
Formerly, the Yellow Emperor asked Bo Gao: The Pulse Measurement chapter states that the length of the meridians, how is it established? Bo Gao replied: First measure the size, breadth, and length of the bone joints, and the pulse measurement is determined. The Emperor said: I wish to hear about the measurements of ordinary people. For a person seven chi five cun tall, what are the sizes and lengths of their bone joints? Bo Gao said: The large bone of the head has a circumference of two chi six cun. The chest circumference is four chi five cun. The waist circumference is four chi two cun. Covered by hair, from the skull to the nape is one chi two cun. From below the hair to the chin is one chi. The gentleman's proportion: from the knot of the throat to the Que Pen is four cun. From the Que Pen to [Missing Character] is nine cun. Exceeding this means the Lung is large; falling short means the Lung is small. From [Missing Character] to Tian Shu is eight cun. Exceeding this means the Stomach is large; falling short means the Stomach is small. From Tian Shu to the Heng Gu (transverse bone) is six and a half cun. Exceeding this means the Hui Chang (returning intestine) is wide and long; falling short means it is narrow and short. The Heng Gu is six and a half cun long. From the upper margin of the Heng Gu to the upper margin of the Nei Fu is one chi eight cun. From the upper margin of the Nei Fu to the lower margin is three and a half cun. From the lower margin of the Nei Fu to the inner malleolus is one chi three cun. From the inner malleolus to the ground is three cun. From the knee [Missing Character] to the foot dorsum is one chi six cun. From the foot dorsum to the ground is three cun. Therefore, if bone circumference is large, it is excessive; if small, it is insufficient. From the corner [Missing Character] to the Zhu Bone is one chi. The part walking in the armpit not visible is four cun. From the armpit to the Ji Xie is one chi two cun. From the Ji Xie to the Bi Shu is six cun. From the Bi Shu to the middle of the knee is one chi nine cun. From the knee to the outer malleolus is one chi six cun. From the outer malleolus to the Jing Gu is three cun. From the Jing Gu to the ground is one cun. Behind the ear at the Wan Gu is nine cun wide. In front of the ear at the Ear Gate is one chi three cun wide. Between the two cheekbones is seven cun apart. Between the two breasts is nine and a half cun wide. Between the two thighs is six and a half cun wide. The foot is one chi two cun long and four and a half cun wide. From shoulder to elbow is one chi seven cun. From elbow to wrist is one chi two and a half cun. From wrist to the proximal phalanx of the middle finger is four cun. From the proximal phalanx to its tip is four and a half cun. From below the hair to the back bone is two and a half cun. From the Lv Bone to the tail [Missing Character] twenty-one segments is three chi. The upper segment is one inch four fen, with the odd fraction below. Thus, the upper seven segments down to the Lv Bone are nine cun and seven-tenths of a fen. This is the bone measurement of the masses, used to establish the length of the meridians. Therefore, observe the meridians in the body: those appearing floating and firm, bright and large, have much Blood; those fine and deep have much Qi.
Whenever using acupuncture, one must understand the location of the Bone Emptinesses (Gu Kong) and the joints of the mechanism. The mechanism, as stated in the Neijing: Above the Fu Bone and below the Heng Gu is [Missing Character]. The narrow hip is the Ji (mechanism). The knee joint is the Hai Guan. The narrow bone of the knee is the Lian Hai. Below the Hai is the Fu. Above the Fu is [Missing Character]. [Missing Character] is the Guan Tou (joint head). The Heng Gu is the Zhen (pillow). Regarding Bone Emptinesses, the Neijing says: The Marrow Emptiness is three fen behind the brain, below the sharp bone at the skull edge (Feng Fu acupoint). One is below the base of the chin (Xia Yi acupoint). One is below the double bone in the middle of the back of the neck (Ya Men acupoint). One is in the empty space of the spinal bone, above Feng Fu (Nao Hu acupoint). The empty space below the spinal bone is in the empty space of the Kao Bone (Chang Qiang acupoint). Several Marrow Emptinesses are on the face flanking the nose (Quan [Missing Character] acupoint). Or the Bone Emptiness is below the mouth facing the two shoulders (Da Ying acupoint). The emptinesses of the two arm bones are on the Yang side of the arm bones (near the shoulder, name lost). The emptiness of the arm bone is on the Yang of the arm, four cun from the ankle, between the two bone emptinesses (Tong Guan acupoint). The acupoint on the upper thigh bone is on the Yang of the thigh, four cun above the knee (Cheng [Missing Character] acupoint). The [Missing Character] Bone Emptiness is at the upper end of the Fu Bone (Du Bi acupoint). The emptiness of the thigh joint bone is in the hair, moving downward (Jing Que acupoint). The emptiness of the Kao Bone is behind the Bi Bone, four cun away (Ba [Missing Character] acupoint). Flat bones have seeping pores and interstices but no Marrow holes. Changing Marrow has no emptiness. For diseases belonging to the Ju Yin and Shao Yang meridians, and the divisions of the Chong, Ren, and Du meridians, the disease originates in the bone. Treat them by moxibustion and acupuncture according to their key points. Thus, wind entering from outside causes shivering chills, aversion to cold, sweating, heavy body, headache, or neck pain. Treat at Feng Fu. Due to wind aversion to wind, puncture the brow ridge (Zan Zhu acupoint). Loss of neck mobility is in the transverse bone between the shoulders (Que Pen acupoint). For fractures, draw the arm level with the elbow, and directly moxa the spine (Yang Guan acupoint). [Missing Character] giving pain distension from the Ji Xie drawing to the Lower Abdomen, puncture [Missing Character]. For severe wind with sweating, moxa it. Lower back pain unable to turn or shake, urgently drawing Yin upward, puncture Ba [Missing Character] and Ba [Missing Character] above the pain. In the division between the lower back and buttocks. Rat [Missing Character] chills and fever, return to puncture the Han Fu (Cold Palace). The Han Fu is attached to the outside of the knee joint. Ying takes the outside above the knee; make them bow to take the sole of the foot; make them kneel. Disease of the Ren Meridian: men have internal binding of Seven Hernias; women have leukorrhea and mass accumulation. Disease of the Chong Meridian: rebellious Qi and interior urgency. Disease of the Du Meridian: stiff spine and backward bending. When these three meridians are diseased, pain rushes from the Lower Abdomen to the Heart, inability to pass urine or stool constitutes Chong Hernia. For women, infertility, strangury, hemorrhoids, incontinence, and dry throat. Disease of the Du Meridian is treated at the Du Meridian, treating above the bone (Qu Gu acupoint). Severe cases are below the umbilicus. Ying treats its gradual point. The Gradual Point is the upper narrow chin (Da Ying acupoint). Stiff knee unable to extend or flex, treat its [Missing Character]. Sitting with knee pain, treat its Ji. Standing with heat resolving the joint, treat the Hai Guan. Knee pain radiating to the big toe, treat its [Missing Character] (Wei Zhong acupoint). Sitting with knee pain as if something is hidden, treat its Guan. Knee pain unable to flex or extend, treat the inside of the back (Da Quan acupoint). Connected [Missing Character] as if broken, treat the Middle Shu [Missing Character] of Yangming (San Jia acupoint). If separately treating Ju Yang and Shao Yin Ying (Tong Gu and Ran Gu). Dizziness and leg soreness unable to stand for long, treat the Luo vessel of Shao Yang, five cun above the outer malleolus (Guang Ming acupoint).
