夫产后中风恍惚者。盖皆因血气通于荣卫。腑脏遍循经络。产则血气俱伤。腑脏皆虚。
心不能统于诸脏。营卫不足。即为风邪所乘。令心神恍惚不安也。

【附论】
所谓产后中风恍惚，大概都是因为气血通达于营卫。脏腑遍行于经络之中。分娩时气血俱伤。脏腑皆虚弱。

上药为末。炼蜜和捣为丸。如梧桐子大。每服五丸。食后生姜汤送下。
[Supplementary Discussion]
The condition of postpartum wind-stroke with mental confusion is generally caused by the fact that Qi and Blood circulate through Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive). The Zang-Fu organs traverse the meridians. Childbirth injures both Qi and Blood, rendering the Zang-Fu organs deficient.
The Heart fails to command the other Zang-Fu organs. Deficiency of Ying and Defensive energies allows Wind pathogen to invade, causing mental confusion and restlessness.
Prescriptions
Niuhuang Wan (Coral Pill) treats postpartum wind-stroke with mental confusion or occasional lockjaw.
Niu Huang (Calculus Bovis, finely ground), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, radix removed), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood), Xiongqiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Duhuo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis), Chuanwu (Radix Aconiti Carmerichaelianae), Xijiao (Hornis Rhinocerotis, sliced), Qianghuo (Rhizoma Notopterygii), Mahuang (Herba Ephedrae, roots and joints removed), Shexiang (Moschus, finely ground, each half qian).
Grind the medicines together until uniform. Mix with refined honey and pound into pills.
Duhuo San (Angelica Pubescens Powder) treats postpartum wind-stroke with mental confusion, slurred speech, chest and heart discomfort, headache and eye pain, dim vision approaching blindness.
Duhuo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis), Mahuang (Herba Ephedrae, roots and joints removed), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, radix removed, each 1 liang), Shigao (Gypsum Fibrosum, 2 liang), Xiongqiong (Rhizoma Chuanxiong), Manjingzi (Fructus Viticis Negundo), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi), Chishao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra), Zhike (Fructus Aurantii, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow, pith removed).
Powder the above ingredients. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 sheng of water, decoct until 0.6 sheng remains. Strain. Take warm at any time.
Hupo San (Amber Powder) treats postpartum wind-stroke with mental confusion, slurred speech, mental restlessness, and limb stiffness.
Hupo (Succinum, finely ground), Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, each 1 liang), Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae, core removed), Changpu (Rhizoma Acori Tatarinowii), Huangqi (Radix Astragali, cut), Lingyangjiao (Cornu Saigae Tataricae, sliced), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, radix removed), Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis, core removed), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, 1 fen, stir-fried until slightly red and cut).
Powder the above ingredients. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 sheng of water, decoct until 0.6 sheng remains. Strain. Take warm at any time.
Lingyangjiao San (Saiga Horn Powder) treats postpartum wind-stroke with mental heat and restlessness, confusion, slurred speech, and limb spasms.
Lingyangjiao (Cornu Saigae Tataricae, sliced), Bai Fuling (Poria, 1 liang), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, radix removed), Xijiao (Hornis Rhinocerotis, sliced), Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis, cut and lightly stir-fried), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi), Zhike (Fructus Aurantii, stir-fried with bran until slightly yellow, pith removed), Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae, core removed).
Powder the above ingredients. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 sheng of water, decoct until 0.6 sheng remains. Strain. Take warm at any time.
Zhusha Wan (Cinnabar Pill) treats postpartum wind-stroke with mental confusion, slurred speech, and drooling from the corners of the mouth.
Zhusha (Cinnabaris, finely ground and washed with water), Chijian (Rhizoma Gastrodiae, also known as Tianma), Duhuo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis, each 1 liang), Baifuzi (Rhizoma Typhonii, processed until cracked), Sangpiaoxiao (Oötheca Mantidis, lightly stir-fried), Hupo (Succinum), Guixin (Cortex Cinnamomi, each half liang), Ejiao (Colla Corii Asini, 3 fen, crushed and stir-fried until yellow).
Powder the above ingredients. Mix with refined honey and pound into pills the size of tung tree seeds. When cool, take 50 pills with bamboo juice wine.
Fushen San (Poria Powder) treats invasion by wind pathogen in postpartum period with mental confusion and unstable will.
Fushen (Poria with Hostwood, 1 liang), Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae, core removed), Baiwei (Radix Cynanchi Atrati), Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma, radix removed), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, radix removed), Duhuo (Radix Angelicae Pubescentis), Jingjie (Herba Schizonepetae, each 3 fen), Shudihuang (Radix Rehmanniae Preparata, 3 sheng).
Powder the above ingredients. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 sheng of water, decoct until 0.6 sheng remains. Strain. Take warm at any time.
Yuanzhi San (Polygala Powder) treats postpartum wind-stroke with mental confusion, erroneous speech, and restlessness.
Yuanzhi (Radix Polygalae, core removed), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae, radix removed, each 1 liang), Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae, half liang, stir-fried until slightly red and cut), Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis, core removed), Lingyangjiao (Cornu Saigae Tataricae, sliced), Suanzaoren (Semen Ziziphi Spinosae).
Powder the above ingredients. Take 3 qian per dose. Add 1 sheng of water, decoct until 0.6 sheng remains. Strain. Take warm at any time.
Tianma Wan (Gastrodia Pill) treats postpartum wind-stroke with mental confusion, slurred speech, and limb stiffness.
Tianma (Rhizoma Gastrodiae), Zhusha (Cinnabaris), Fangfeng (Radix Saposhnikoviae), Qianghuo (Rhizoma Notopterygii, each 1 liang), Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus, 3 fen, stir-fried), Ganxie (Scorpio, stir-fried), Baifuzi (Rhizoma Typhonii, processed until cracked), Wulingzhi (Faeces Tamandanae), Xionghuang (Realgar).
Powder the above ingredients. Mix with refined honey and pound into pills the size of tung tree seeds. Take 5 pills after meals with ginger soup.
