夫诸痛痒疮。皆属心。心虚寒则痒。心实热则痛。丹毒之病。由心实热也。生血主于脉。

嚏。作效。若 药不嚏。不可治之。如嚏出脓血者。治之必愈。如左右看病之人。日日用
药嚏之。必不传染。切须记之。其病患每日用此药三五次。以泄热毒。此治时毒之良法也
经三四日不解者。不可大下。犹宜和解之。服犀角散、连翘散之类。至七八日大小便通利
头面肿起高赤者。可服托里散、黄 散。宜针镰砭割出血。泄其毒瓦斯。十日外不治自愈也。
此病若五日以前。精神昏乱。咽喉闭塞。语声不出。头面不肿者。即死之候。然而此疾有阴
有阳。有可汗。有不可下。尝见粗工。但云热毒则用寒药。殊不知病有微甚。治有逆从。不
可不审矣。

（附论）
各种疼痛、瘙痒、疮疡，都归属于心。心气虚寒则表现为瘙痒，心气实热则表现为疼痛。丹毒这种病，是由心经实热引起的。血液的生成主要依赖于脉道。
白丹、五色油丹，难道仅仅因为红色才称为“丹”吗？又有赤流天火、殃火、尿灶、废灶、野火等名称，认为是小儿外出游玩时触犯邪气所致。这种情况或许存在。但如果小儿还在襁褓之中，不能外出，也患此病，这难道是触犯邪气就生病了吗？大体上都是气血运行失常所致。
凡是火丹，皮肤肌肉中突然出现像涂了丹砂一样的红色，痛痒不定，甚至遍布全身。白丹，则是皮肤肌肉肿胀突起，发痒且伴有腹痛。

治疗丹毒的方剂，《千金方》和《外台秘要》记载很多，没有超过使用冷物治疗的。凡是用冷物，没有比藻菜更好的了。如果有患丹毒、热肿等症状，
热毒之气，在皮肤间暴发，无法向外发散，导致血液郁滞成为丹毒。热气剽悍急疾，发作没有固定部位，大的如手掌大小。

切恐传染。考证经典说，人身突然变红，状如涂丹，称为丹毒。这是由风热恶毒引起的，称为丹瘤。与时毒特别不同。大概时毒是感受四时不正之气，初起症状像伤寒，五到七天之间，能致人死亡。治疗应当仔细辨别。先切按脉搏，滑数浮洪，沉紧弦涩，都是其征候。大概浮数的，邪气在表；沉涩的，邪气深入。感受四时毒瓦斯，身体壮实的人，急服化毒丹以攻逐邪气。热实证用五利大黄汤泻下。有表证的，用解毒升麻汤发汗。如果气虚软的，主用五香连翘汤。长期在鼻内使用通气散，取十次喷嚏，作为疗效标准。如果用药不引起喷嚏，不可治愈。如果嚏出脓血，治疗必愈。如果左右看护的人，每天用药嚏鼻，必定不会传染。务必记住。病患每天用此药三到五次，以泄热毒。这是治疗时毒的好方法。
经过三四天不解的，不可峻下，仍宜和解。服用犀角散、连翘散之类。到了七八天，大小便通利，头面部肿起高赤的，可服用托里散、黄……散。宜用针镰砭割出血，泄其毒瓦斯。十日外不治也会自愈。
此病如果在五日以前，精神昏乱，咽喉闭塞，语声不出，头面部不肿的，即死证。然而此疾有阴证有阳证，有可发汗的，有不可泻下的。曾见粗疏的医生，只说热毒就用寒药，却不知道病有轻重，治疗有逆从，不可以不审慎啊。

This may occasionally happen. However, if infants still in swaddling clothes, who cannot go out, also suffer from this disease, how can it be said that illness comes merely from being touched? Generally, it is all due to the malfunction of Qi and Blood.
Regarding Fire Dan, the flesh suddenly turns red like painted cinnabar, with unpredictable pain and itching, even spreading over the entire body. White Dan presents as swelling and protrusion in the flesh, accompanied by itching and abdominal pain.

One must fear contagion. Examining the classics states: "When the human body suddenly turns red, resembling painted cinnabar, it is called Dan Du." This is caused by wind-heat and malignant toxins, referred to as Dan Liu. It is distinctly different from Shi Du. Shi Du results from contracting the abnormal qi of the four seasons; initially resembling Taiyang Cold Damage (Shanghan), it can cause death within five to seven days. Treatment requires precise differentiation. First, palpate the pulse: slippery-rapid, floating-hong, deep-tight, wiry-choppy are all indicators. Floating-rapid indicates pathogenic factors at the exterior; deep-choppy indicates deep penetration of pathogens. For those robust who contract seasonal toxic vapors, urgently administer Hua Du Dan to attack the pathogen. For heat-excess conditions, use Wu Li Da Huang Tang to purge downward. For those with exterior syndromes, use Jie Du Sheng Ma Tang to induce sweating. If Qi is weak and soft, Wuxiang Lianqiao Tang is the primary formula. Use Tongqi San nasally over time, aiming for ten sneezes as the efficacy marker. If medication does not induce sneezing, it is untreatable. If pus and blood are expelled via sneezing, treatment will surely succeed. Caregivers should use this medication nasally daily to prevent contagion. Remember this well. Patients should use this medicine three to five times daily to drain heat-toxin. This is an excellent method for treating Shi Du.
If unresolved after three to four days, do not purge severely; reconciliation is still appropriate. Take Xijiao San or Lianqiao San. By the seventh or eighth day, if urination and defecation are smooth, but the head and face remain swollen, high, and red, take Tuoli San or Huang... San. Pricking and cupping to bleed is indicated to drain toxic vapors. After ten days, even without treatment, it may heal spontaneously.
If before the fifth day, the patient exhibits mental confusion, throat obstruction, inability to speak, and no head/face swelling, it is a sign of death. However, this disease has Yin and Yang aspects; some cases allow sweating, others forbid purging. I have seen incompetent physicians who, simply stating heat-toxin, use cold medicines, unaware that diseases vary in severity and treatments must follow contrary or conforming principles. One must not fail to examine carefully.
