When the properties of "Rushi" (mineral drugs) are activated, symptoms of strangury (dysuria with frequent, painful urination) and astringency occur. This is caused by heat returning to the Kidney, resulting from excessive heat. The Kidney governs water and dislikes dryness; water flows through the Small Intestine into the Bladder to form urine.
Huashi San (Talcum Powder Decoction) (from *Shengji Zonglu*) treats the activation of Rushi properties. It addresses strangury that recurs over years or days.
Ingredients: Huashi (Talcum, 2 liang), Dongkuizi (Malva Seed), Qumai (Herba Dianthi), Chenjupi (Exocarpium Citri Reticulatae, peeled, baked, 1 liang each), Chifuling (Polyporus, black skin removed), Shaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra/Lactiflorae), Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae, white skin removed). Preparation: Decoct and take with liquid.

Another Formula:
Use Sugarcane, peel and cut into inch-length pieces. Chew and swallow the juice. If mouth pain prevents chewing, drink the extracted juice. If previously purged, take cautiously. Sugarcane promotes bowel movement...
If strangury occurs, it is often due to prolonged sitting in warm places or riding horses/saddles causing excessive heat entering the Bladder.
Simply consume cold food/water, wash with cold stones, or apply cold stone compresses to the abdomen. Recovery should occur within one day. *Qianjin Yi* states: If it does not stop, purgation is necessary; failure to purge may be fatal.
