Ku Hu Wan specifically treats severe water retention, swelling of head, face, and body. Also treats sudden edema where foot swelling spreads to the knee, making walking impossible. Take the white pulp of Ku Hu (Bitter Melon), shape into pills the size of soybeans, wrap in dough, boil once, swallow one pill on an empty stomach. By noon, one sheng of water will be discharged. After three to four days, water discharge continues spontaneously, curing the condition. Be cautious with diet for three years. Although Ku Hu is good, select those with fine texture and grind cleanly; otherwise, it is toxic and unusable. Cui Shi's method makes seven wontons. For deficiency cases, take with cow milk. Take every other day, gradually increasing to thirty-seven pills. Stop when urination becomes frequent. If urination is too much, stop for one or two days.
