The condition of shortness of breath, characterized by weak respiration and insufficient air to continue breathing, is due to Lung Qi deficiency (Lung Qi deficiency). If one must lean on an object to breathe, suffers from severe shortness of breath that prevents lying flat, and the body appears swollen, this is caused by fluid retention (Fluid Retention). If shortness of breath is accompanied by upward rebellious wheezing, with a rapid and urgent airway, this indicates excess syndrome (Excess Syndrome). Excess syndrome involves hyperactive Qi; when Qi is hyperactive, it becomes rebellious and obstructed, leading to shortness of breath.
