Generally, "Rou Ji" (Muscle Extremis Disease) is primarily associated with the Spleen. The Spleen corresponds to muscles, and muscles are formed by the integration of muscle tissue and interstitial spaces. If the Spleen is diseased, the color of the muscles changes. It is also said that when the organ of Extreme Yin encounters pathogenic factors, it results in "Ji Bi" (Muscle Bi Syndrome).
Symptoms include yellowish complexion, heaviness of the body, hidden pain, disintegration of lips and mouth, alteration of skin color, depletion of body fluids, opening of cou li (pores), and profuse sweating. This condition is named "E Feng" (Aversion to Wind). Treatment must grasp the general principles and understand the beginning and end of the disease.
Based on Yin and Yang dynamics, distinguish the deficiency and excess of muscles. For excess conditions, use draining methods; for deficiency conditions, use tonifying methods. A skilled healer must intervene and treat as soon as wind pathogens enter the exterior layers of skin, hair, muscle, and sinews. If the pathogen enters the Six Fu Organs or Five Zang Organs, the prognosis is half-life and half-death.
Bian Que stated: "Rou Jue" (Muscle Exhaustion) is incurable, leading to death within five days. How do we know this? Because the skin becomes obstructed, preventing the external release of pathogens. Generally, muscle diseases correspond to the Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian. When the Qi of the Foot Taiyin Spleen is exhausted, the lips lose flesh. In cases of muscle deficiency, patients cannot sit comfortably on their mats, and their bodies are in a critical and unstable state. In cases of muscle excess, patients remain seated without moving and suffer from panting. The manifestation of muscle deficiency or excess is mainly governed by the Spleen. If there are pathological changes in the Zang-Fu organs, the following formulas may be used.
