When Kidney Qi is internally deficient, pathogenic heat enters the Kidney Meridian. The pulse is surging and large (Hong Da), urination is frequent, and the urine output is scanty, turbid, red, painful, and difficult to pass. This condition should not be treated with Qian Niu (Pharbitis Seed) to promote water metabolism.
Cong Bai San (Scallia Decoction, from *Zhi Zhi Fang*): Treats stabbing pain caused by Kidney Qi; applicable to all seven types of Qi disorders.
Ingredients: Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), Chuan Xiong (Ligustici Chuanxiong Rhizoma), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus, indicated for treatment), Guan Gui (Cinnamomi Cortex), Qing Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium Viride), Chuan Bai Jiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens), Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus, stir-fried), Chuan Lian Zi (Meliae Fructus), Chen Pi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium), Zi Su (Perillae Folium), San Leng (Sparganii Rhizoma, baked). Each half liang.
The above herbs are processed into fine powder to treat Kidney Qi pain and Ben Tun Qi (Panic Qi).
Chuan Shan Jia (Manis Squama, half liang, bran-fried), Mu Xiang (Aucklandiae Radix), Hai Zao (Sargassum Herba, roasted), Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus, each one liang), Quan Xie (Scorpio, fifteen pieces, tips and venom removed), Tu Gou Zi (Myospalacis Spinaeterna, ten pieces, head and feet removed).
Wu Zhu Yu (Evodiae Fructus, one and a half liang).
Boil until the rice is thoroughly cooked and soft.
Form pills as large as Sophora seeds.
Jin Ling Zi Wan (Melia Pill, from *He Ji Ju Fang*): Treats attacks of Kidney Qi with radiating pain, tension and tightness in the umbilical and abdominal regions, and unpredictable attacking sensations.
Ingredients: Jin Ling Zi (Meliae Fructus, pitted and stir-fried, four liang), Yi Zhi Ren (Alpiniae Oxyphyllae Fructus), Hu Lu Ba (Trigonellae Semen), Shi Chang Pu (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma), Po Gu Zhi (Psoraleae Fructus, stir-fried), Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus), Ba Ji Tian (Morindae Officinalis Radix, heart removed). Each two liang.
Form pills as large as Sophora seeds. Take fifty pills per dose.
Treats Kidney Qi pain.
Ban Xia (Pinelliae Rhizoma), Qian Niu (Pharbitidis Semen), Bo Shang Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus imported), Zhu Ling (Polypori Sclerotium), Mu Tong (Akebiae Caulis - use stir-fried Zhu Ling, discard Mu Tong), Luo Bo Zi (Raphani Semen, stir-fry Qian Niu, discard Luo Bo Zi), Bi Xi (Fici Caricae Fructus).

Jin Shan Lao Ai Gua Wan (Golden Mountain Old Mugwort Melon Pill, from *Zhi Zhi Fang*): Treats stabbing pain from Kidney Qi and Hong Kong Foot (Gouty Arthritis) soreness and pain; effective for general use.
Ingredients: Hu Lu Ba (Trigonellae Semen, slow-fire stir-fried), Niu Xi (Achyranthis Bidentatae Radix, wine-soaked and roasted), Bo Shang Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus, wine-soaked and stir-fried), Rou Cong Rong (Cistanches Herba, wine-soaked and roasted), Chuan Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix, selected clean and used raw).
Herb powders (separately ground, each one liang).
Process the above into fine powder, pierce with a needle, tie with hemp thread, steam until soft, and grind finely.
Tong Qi Wan (Qi-Regulating Pill): Deficiency of Shao Yin leads to weak Kidney Qi. Sudden cold injury causes Tai Yang Qi to sink, forcing Kidney Qi to rush inward and disturb the San Jiao (Triple Burner). Symptoms may include fever and headache, cough with rapid breathing and phlegm, radiating pain in the right hypochondrium, or transmission into rashes, among others. The left pulse is entirely sunken and wiry; upon pressure, it feels empty, large, and choppy. Also treats...
Ingredients: Hu Lu Ba (Trigonellae Semen, stir-fried), Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex, stir-fried until fibers break, each one liang), Bu Gu Zhi (Psoraleae Fructus, one qian), Xuan Shen (Scrophulariae Radix), San Leng (Sparganii Rhizoma, each five qian), Qiang Huo (Notopterygii Rhizoma et Radix), Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus, each...).

Ingredients: Zhi Zi Ren (Gardeniae Fructus, processed), Zhi Ke (Aurantii Fructus, each half liang), Bei Geng (Platycodonis Radix), Bei Qian Hu (Peucedani Radix), Qing Mu Xiang (Costi Radix), Chi Fu Ling (Poria Cum Rubo), Che Qian Zi (Plantaginis Semen), Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma, each one fen).

Hai Zao Wan (Sargassum Pill): Treats Kidney Qi pain.
Ingredients: Hai Zao (Sargassum Herba, four liang), San Leng (Sparganii Rhizoma, six liang), Hui Xiang (Foeniculi Fructus, nine liang), Qian Niu (Pharbitidis Semen, one liang two qian, stir-fried).

Qing E Wan (Green Armor Pill, from *He Ji Ju Fang*): Treats Kidney Qi weakness where wind-cold invades, or blood and Qi clash, causing backache as if broken, difficulty rising and sitting, inability to bend forward or backward, and inability to turn sideways. It may also result from excessive labor injuring the Kidney Meridian, dwelling in damp places damaging the waist with earthy qi, falling injuries, wind-cold invasion, or stagnant Qi. All these cause backache with a sensation of heaviness in the waist, making movement difficult; this formula can cure all such conditions. One variation adds Chuan Xu Duan (Dipsaci Radix) and Tao Ren (Persicae Semen, skin and tip removed).
Ingredients: Hu Tao (Juglandis Semen, skin and membrane removed, twenty nuts), Suan (Allii Sativi Bulbus, boiled into paste, four liang), Po Gu Zhi (Psoraleae Fructus, wine-soaked and stir-fried, eight liang; one variation stir-fries with Sesame, removes sesame, takes powder), Du Zhong (Eucommiae Cortex).
Take with light vinegar decoction. Regular use.
Treats Mu Shen (Wood-like Penile Swelling).
Ingredients: Ru Xiang (Olibanum), Mo Yao (Myrrha), Di Dan (Euphorbiae Pekinensis Radix), Yuan Jing (Mylabris, wings and feet removed).
To understand the origin of Mu Shen: grind Ru Xiang and Mo Yao, two qian each; Yuan Jing and Di Dan, two and a half qian. Remove wings, grind into powder as before. Make twenty-five pills. Those who can drink alcohol should take three cups; chew one pill on an empty stomach. You will feel like an immortal freed from the mundane world.
Treats Kidney Qi flowing horizontally and vertically, pain extending to swollen external genitalia.
