Shenyong (Kidney Abscess) is located opposite the inner kidney. It is formed due to the decline and failure of Kidney Qi. Those that suddenly protrude with red skin are easy to heal; those that sink into the blackened skin are difficult to cure. If the spirit is clear, the complexion is ruddy, food intake is not reduced, and there is more sitting and less lying down, this is a favorable sign. If the complexion is dark yellow, and food intake is completely reduced, this is a cause for concern. Careful examination and rapid treatment are required. Shenyong results from improper management, labor injury damaging Qi and Blood, where Wind-Cold pathogens enter through the deficiency and lodge internally in the Kidney, accompanied by pathogenic Heat. This causes Qi stagnation and accumulation, sometimes presenting with alternating chills and fever, characterized by a rapid and excess pulse.
Xiaodu San (Disinfecting Powder, from *Bai Yi Xuan Fang*) treats Shenyong in men, Ruyong (Breast Abscess) in women, and all types of red swelling and toxic sores. Self-resolution occurs after administration.
Chitu (Red Earth, size of a soapberry) Mubiezi (Strychni Semen, seven seeds, processed and peeled). Grind these two together until extremely uniform. Divide into three doses. Administer with warm wine or rice water after meals. It does not damage the Zang-Fu organs, and efficacy is usually achieved within one dose.
Treatment for External Genital Abscesses
Use Baoji Luanké (Hen's Eggshell), Yingzhao (Eagle Claw), Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma), and Qingfen (Calomelas) in equal parts, grind into powder. After decoction, mix with clarified sesame oil and apply topically.
Treatment for Male Glans Abscess (from *Zhou Hou Fang*)
Use one Biejia (Testudinis Carapax et Plastrum). Burn into powder, mix with Jizi Bai (Albumen Ovi Galli), and apply as a poultice.
Treatment for Shenyong and Epidemic Febrile Diseases
Apply Mougu Fen (Sepiae Endoconcha Powder) as a dusting powder.
Gancao Gao (Licorice Paste, from *Bai Yi Xuan Fang*) treats abscesses occurring before and after the digestive tract, known as Xuanyong (Hanging Abscess). These occur at the anus and bladder area, forming nodules resembling olives or plums. Initially painless, they gradually become hot after ten days. If not treated early, the sore ulcerates, discharging pus and blood, up to several bowls per day. In severe cases, intestinal rot may occur, causing feces to exit through the wound, an indescribable suffering. Recovery can take months to a year or two. Treatment must begin before the nodule becomes painful. Usually, one or two doses will cause it to resolve spontaneously. The disease starts the size of a pine nut, grows to the size of a lotus seed, and after dozens of days, if redness and swelling appear like a plum or peach, it will rupture. Once ruptured, it is difficult to treat. Taking this medicine, even if the abscess has ruptured, two more doses will close the wound, which is very effective.
Use Banjin of Fengan Gancao (Powdered Licorice Root), selecting four liang of stem-free licorice. Split it like counting rods. Take running spring water from between rocks, soak the licorice thoroughly, then roast over charcoal fire while dipping in water, until one bowl of water is consumed. Do not break it open hastily. Take the roasted licorice and decoct it separately with five cups of spring water and five cups of good non-ashy wine in a clay pot until reduced to one-third, forming a paste. Take all at once for immediate cure. Additionally, use four liang of licorice with nodes, decoct in spring water according to pot size, filter, and wash the affected area three times. The effect is miraculous. Re-warm if the water cools. Another method for sudden swelling of Xuanyong: use half a qian of Pengsha (Borax), wrap in cotton, hold in mouth, swallow saliva until healed.
Treatment for Xuanyong.
Dahuang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) Gancaojie (Licorice Node) Beimu (Fritillariae Bulbus) Baizhi (Angelicae Dahuricae Radix). Grind into powder, mix with small amount of wine. Also treats persistent Qi stagnation and other sores/boils after healing. For weak persons, add half dosage of Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix). Use half dosage of Wei Dahuang (Roasted Rhubarb).
Treatment for Xuanyong caused by improper care, resulting in obstruction and stuffiness in the throat (from *Ben Cao*).
Baifan (Alumen, one liang, calcined to ash) Yan (Salt, one liang). Grind finely into a powder. Apply to the lesion using the tip of a chopstick until healed.
