肛门是大肠传导糟粕的通道。肺与大肠相表里，故称其为“通事令史”（负责传递信息的官员）。其重量为十二两，长度为一尺二寸，宽度为二寸二分。
《难经·四十八难》说：疾病的虚实，气向外泄出为虚证，气向内陷入为实证。肛门的脱出，属于虚证。因为实证宜用温法，温则内气充盈，正气得以固摄。
因下痢导致肛门脱出的，是因为大肠虚弱，寒气侵袭所致。如厕时大便不通，极力努挣，导致肛门脱出，所以称为脱肛。
猪肝散（出自《千金方》）：治疗大肠寒邪客于肛门。寒邪盛则导致洞泄（严重腹泻），肛门滞涩脱出。
配方：猪肝（一斤，熬干）、黄连、阿胶、川芎（各二两）、乌梅肉（五两）、艾叶（一两）。以上药物研为细末。
