Also recorded a villager suffering from Shang Han (Cold Damage) with body heat, constipation, irritability, thirst, and mental confusion. The physician used Ba Dou (Croton Seed) medicine to purge. Although loose stools were obtained, the illness remained exactly as before. I examined him and found Yang Ming Heat accumulation inside; only Da Chai Hu Tang or Cheng Qi Tang could treat it. Ba Dou only removes accumulation; how can it sweep away pathogenic heat and accumulated toxins? Urgently administered three doses of Da Chai Hu Tang etc., resulting in sweating and resolution. I once said that among Zhong Jing's 113 formulas, five are pills: Li Zhong Tang, Xiong Xiong Tang, Di Dang Tang, Wu Mei Wan, Ma Ren Wan. These

In the year Gui Chou, my old friend Wang Yanlong, serving as the grain store official in Piling, fell ill in late summer. He had excessive sweating on the chest and neck, cold feet, and delirious speech. The physicians did not understand,
Mixed medicines were already given.
Dampness combined,

Thus the Classic says heat and dampness combine. It is called Wen Re (Damp-Heat)
