To treat Qi pain of the Bladder.
Foeniculi Fructus (Stir-fried), Curcumae Zedoariae Rhizoma, Semen Meliae Toosendan, Bupleuri Radix (each 1 liang; two of these are stir-fried until cooked and chopped), Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (0.5 liang, honey-fried).
Grind the above into a fine powder. Take 2 qian each time, mixed with hot wine for administration. Qiang You'an stated that when severe pain occurs continuously for several days, only one or two doses are needed to stop it immediately.
Previously, while I was in Huizhou, Song Xunfu, the county magistrate of She County, suffered unbearable pain due to an attack of Bladder Qi. Physicians administered harsh, hot-natured medicines, which exacerbated the pain. He had been unable to urinate for three days, experiencing distension below the umbilicus and chest oppression. Upon visiting him, I observed his face was dark red and his pulse was flooding and large. I said, "The excessive use of hot medicines has caused a blockage of Yin and Yang, preventing the free flow of Qi. What should be done?" The magistrate still held several pills of Sishen Dan in his hand, saying, "The physician advised taking more since the pain persists." I replied, "If you take this, you will certainly die. Do not regret it later." He earnestly begged for treatment. I happened to have about 1 liang of Wuling San, divided into three doses. I altered its name and prescribed it with a stalk of green onion with roots, a pinch of Foeniculi Fructus, and 1 qian of salt. Added with 1.5 sheng of water, it was decocted until reduced to 0.7 sheng. He was instructed to take the three doses consecutively. In the middle of the night, he passed one to two sheng of urine as dark as ink, and felt relief below the umbilicus, allowing him to sleep. The next day, upon examination, his pulse had normalized. Subsequently, Sha Wan was administered, and he recovered after several days. Generally, this disease arises from deficiency. One should not abruptly tonify simply because there is deficiency. The *Neijing* states: "Where pathogenic factors gather, the Qi must be deficient; if they remain and do not depart, the pathology manifests as excess." Therefore, one must first purge the accumulated pathogens before tonifying. This is why many formulas utilize the acrid-hot nature of Crotonis Fructus (Badou), referring to this principle.
To treat spermatorrhea and nocturnal emission, where the closure is not secure, Jin suo Dan (Golden Lock Pill) (also known as Foeniculi Pill).
Foeniculi Fructus (from overseas, stir-fried), Trigonellae Foenum-graeci Semen, Psoraleae Fructus (stir-fried until fragrant), Os Draconis (above each 1 liang), Aquilariae Lignum Resinatum (1.5 liang), Juglandis Semen (3-7 kernels, ground), Testes Ovis (3 pairs, split open, rubbed with 0.5 liang of salt, roasted until cooked through, and ground into paste).
Grind the above five herbs into a powder. Grind the other two ingredients into a paste. Mix with steamed dough soaked in wine, pound until cooked and cohesive. Form pills the size of mulberry seeds. Take 30-50 pills each time on an empty stomach, washed down with warm wine.
