Diseases of the Foot-Taiyang Bladder Meridian: Whenever there is fever, headache, stiffness and pain in the waist and spine, pain in the shoulder and back, and a floating-tight pulse, these are all Taiyang syndrome (Taiyang disease). If accompanied by aversion to cold in the shoulder and back, nausea with a desire to vomit, or dull eyes without spirit, unwillingness to see people, preference for darkness and fear of light, soreness and dryness in the eye sockets, or a preference for lying face down against the wall, or "dai yan" (eyes rolling upward), or head drooping with body pain, or even a pale and clear complexion with faint traces of cyanosis or blackness, or weakness in the Dantian (Lower Abdomen), shortness of breath with a weak voice, rapid breathing with asthma, or a sensation of obstruction in the throat, or opisthotonos (spasm causing arching of the back), or clear and white urine, or urinary incontinence, or short and red urine yet no preference for cold drinks internally; whenever the pulse is found to be floating and empty/weak, or deep, tight, fine, and weak, these are all Yin syndromes where the Taiyang meridian combines with the Shaoyin meridian.
Diseases of the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian: Whenever there is fever, pain in the head and eyes, insomnia, and a long and rapid pulse, these originally belong to Yangming syndrome (Yangming disease). If accompanied by aversion to cold in the face and nose, a pale and clear complexion, or a cold nasal tip, non-hot breath from the mouth, or bluish-white and slightly black lips and mouth, or shortness of breath with a weak voice, shallow nasal breathing, reluctance to speak, or "Dai yang" (floating Yang) presenting as facial flushing, lethargy, drowsiness, and excessive sleep, or irritability, facial redness, body heat, virtual mania, and false macules, with a pulse that is instead micro-fine and weak; or although the body has fever, there is a contrary desire to wear clothes; or thirst without a desire to drink water, or inability to take even fluids; or aversion to cold with shivering, nausea, and vomiting/regurgitation; or muscle twitching with palpitations; or "moving Qi" manifesting in the chest and abdomen; or weakness in the four limbs, heaviness of the body, and reluctance to move; or spontaneous coldness of the hands and feet; or upon pressing the muscles, no significant heat is felt; or loose stools, spontaneous diarrhea with abdominal pain; whenever the pulse is floating and long but weak, or short, fine, knotted, or hurried, these are all Yin syndromes where the Yangming meridian combines with the Taiyin meridian.
Diseases of the Foot-Shaoyang Gallbladder Meridian: Whenever there is fever, pulling pain in the head and ears, pain in the hypochondrium, alternating chills and fever, and a string-taut and rapid pulse, these originally belong to Shaoyang syndrome (Shaoyang disease). If although there is slight fever, it comes and goes, and there is often aversion to cold; or deafness; or dizziness; or soreness and dimness of the eyes; or frequent fright, timidity, and fear; or vomiting bitter fluid and sour regurgitation; or nausea with a preference for warmth; or cyanotic nails, taut sinews, and retraction of the scrotum; or cold extremities with dysentery, borborygmus, and lower abdominal pain; whenever the pulse is string-taut and rapid but weak, or deep, fine, and weak, these are all Yin syndromes where the Shaoyang meridian combines with the Jueyin meridian. The above describes the Yin syndromes of the Three Yang meridians. A Yin syndrome refers to a syndrome of Yang deficiency. All such cases strictly prohibit the use of cold-natured and attacking/draining medicines; misuse will result in death. Fearing that future generations may produce individuals like Li Zijian, I have specifically highlighted and presented these points as a warning and reference for later practitioners.
