茯神（编号188），依附树根而生，靠近根部，所以能入心经，通心气，补益健忘，止住恍惚惊悸。虽然《本草》如此记载，但总不外乎是渗利下降之物，与茯苓没有太大差别。

It can resolve alternating chills and fever, aversion to cold with rigidity, disperse wind-heat, unblock the nine orifices, eliminate headache and brain pain due to wind, dizziness, itching, and treat facial swelling radiating toothache. For treating nasal congestion with discharge, Bi Yuan (sinusitis), Bi Qiu (allergic rhinitis), nasal sores, and post-varicella nasal sores, it is best ground into powder, mixed with a small amount of Moschus (She Xiang, Musk), dipped with scallion white, and applied into the nostrils several times, which is very effective.
Zao Jiao (Fructus Gleditsiae Sinensis), No. 181. Flavor acrid and salty, nature warm, slightly toxic. It excels at expelling wind-phlegm, unblocking the nine orifices, connecting joints, treating headaches caused by wind, killing various parasites, promoting digestion and guiding out phlegm, removing coughs, qi stagnation in the chest and abdomen, pain and distension, opening mouth lockjaw due to stroke, treating throat obstruction with swelling and pain, moving lung qi stagnation, unblocking constipation, inducing abortion, breaking hard accumulations, reducing swelling and toxicity, and treating wind-xian, scabies, and leprosy. Burning it to smoke treats prolapsed rectum with swelling and pain. It can be made into pills or powders but is not suitable for decoction.
Ba Dou (Semen Crotonis), No. 182. Flavor acrid, nature hot, highly toxic, capable of ascending and descending. It excels at opening blocked orifices, breaking hard accumulations, expelling phlegm-fluids, killing various poisonous insects and gu-poison, unblocking constipation, eliminating retained food, attacking cold retention in the zang-fu organs and cold/raw food stagnation, treating abdominal pain, diarrhea-dysentery, convulsions, various water-gas syndromes, expelling living or dead fetuses, driving out blood stasis and blood accumulations, eliminating carbuncles, sores, ding-toxins, and malignant ulcers, removing polyps, foul flesh, and necrotic tissue, draining pus and reducing swelling, and treating throat obstruction and toothache. However, its nature is rigid and fierce, reaching everywhere; thus it is called the "General who breaches gates." Misuse leads to disaster like pushing down walls; skillful use brings the wonder of pacifying chaos and harmonizing the middle. Users must exercise caution.

Pounded with lard for hot sores; mixed with honey for damp tinea.
Fu Ling (Poria), No. 187. Flavor sweet and bland, nature neutral. Nature descends and promotes diuresis, belonging to yin within yang. Divided into red and white varieties. Although Ben Cao states red purges Bing-Ding fire and white enters Ren-Gui water, both are ultimately excretory, thus able to unblock orifices and remove dampness. Unblocking orifices opens the heart and benefits intelligence, guiding turbid qi to generate fluids; removing dampness drives out water, dries the spleen, tonifies the middle, and strengthens the stomach. Dispels convulsions, thickens intestines and viscera, treats the root of phlegm, assists drugs in descending. Due to slight sweetness, it is said to tonify yang, but since tonification is minor and drainage major, excessive use damages eyesight and is unsuitable for the chronically weak. If processed with human milk and sun-dried, the increased milk powder makes it excellent for tonifying yin.
Fu Shen (Poria with Hostwood), No. 188. Grows near the roots, thus entering the Heart Meridian, unblocking heart qi, treating forgetfulness, and stopping palpitations and fright. Although Ben Cao records this, it is essentially a draining and descending substance, similar to Fu Ling.

Also resolves damp-heat from Taiyang disease, podagra, leukorrhea, and treats gestational strangury and fetal edema.

Treats cholera, dysphagia, hernia, abdominal pain, kills small insects and dental worms. Breaks accumulations, dissolves masses, removes gu-poison, and detoxifies mushrooms, vegetables, beef, mutton, fish, and meat poisons. Taken as powder or pill as desired.
Zhang Nao (Borneolum Syntheticum), No. 196. Flavor acrid and slightly bitter, nature hot. Excels at unblocking orifices and breaking qi stagnation. Repels sudden evil qi, treats tinea, kills insects and moths. Placed in shoes to treat podagra. Smoke fumigates clothes and mats to remove fleas and bedbugs. For kittens with many fleas, mix with flour and rub on; fleas fall off completely. An excellent prescription.
Long Nao (Borneolum Naturalis / Borneol), No. 197. Also known as Bing Pian. Flavor slightly sweet, highly acrid. Topical application feels icy cold; qi is potent and forceful. Use sparingly and briefly; excessive use scatters true qi and harms greatly.

Treats metal wounds, fractures, contusions, blood stasis pain, internal injury with reversed blood, female blood qi stagnation. Can also generate blood and tonify deficiency. All can be powdered and taken with wine. Treats all malignant sores, tinea, and non-healing ulcers. However, it draws out pus, so do not use excessively.
Lu Hui (Aloe), No. 199. Flavor highly bitter, nature highly cold. Qi and flavor are concentrated, capable of ascending and descending. Removes wind-heat irritability, clears lung/stomach stagnant fire, cools blood, clears liver, brightens eyes, treats pediatric wind-heat acute convulsions/epilepsy, five types of malnutrition heat toxins, kills parasites, and treats hemorrhoid fistulas and hot sores. Military use kills malnutrition roundworms. Snuffed into nose for brain malnutrition, nasal heat/itching, nasal polyps. Powder applied to toothache. Mixed with Licorice for damp tinea to kill insects and drain yellow fluid, which is excellent.
