Those residing in miasma-prone areas, although advised to be cautious with their daily routines, must not fail to prepare preventive medicines. Such as *Renshen* (Ginseng Radix), *Fuzi* (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata), *Ganjiang* (Zingiberis Rhizoma), *Danggui* (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), *Shudi* (Rehmanniae Radix Preparata), *Zijin Ding* (Purple Gold Ingot), *Suhe Wan* (Styrax Pill), and *Buhuanjin Zhengqi San* (Non-Exchanging Metal Qi-Regulating Powder), among others, are indispensable at all times. For those serving as officials in this region, administrative duties are often heavy; for merchants traveling there for trade, business operations do not allow for leisure. If one feels slightly unwell, one should immediately take medicine according to proper methods to resolve the pathogen. Mild pathogens are easily suppressed and may not cause disease; however, if one fails to prevent them from developing, the condition will inevitably worsen gradually. Thus it is said: "Treat the disease before it arises," which refers to this principle.
If the pulse at both Guan positions (middle position on the radial artery) is surging and large, it indicates Heat Miasma. If the pulse is rapid and severe, it also indicates Heat Miasma. If the pulse is wiry and tight, it indicates Miasma Malaria. If the pulse is floating and tight, exterior-resolving treatment is appropriate. If the pulse is floating and moderate, it indicates Wind Injury, which is a mild condition. If the pulse is surging, rapid, but empty upon deep pressure, it indicates Yang Floating and Yin Obstruction. If the pulse is deep, minute, and weak, it indicates Deficiency-Cold.
For any miasma illness, after symptoms have not manifested for three days, one may wash hands. After seven days, one may wash the face. After half a month, one may comb hair. After one to two months, sexual activity must be strictly abstained from; abstinence for one hundred days is particularly beneficial. Furthermore, after the cessation of miasma symptoms, one must consume vegetarian porridge for three days. After five days, one may eat soft rice with soup made from pig spleen. After ten days, one may drink a little wine and consume small amounts of meat broth. However, one must avoid consuming juices extracted from various bones. Violating this will cause recurrence. Juices from cattle, sheep, pigs, dogs, chickens, and geese bones must be avoided for one month, or preferably two months. Any recurrence due to violation will likely result in a more critical and debilitating condition.
