Xue Ji (courtesy name Lizai) stated: When nodules appear all over the body, and scratching them causes pus to ooze profusely, accompanied by alternating chills and fever, this is due to deficiency of Qi and Blood in the Liver Channel with internal fire. Use Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction) added with Mudanpi (Moutan Cortex) and Chaihu (Bupleuri Radix). If there is internal heat with aversion to cold, this is deficiency-heat caused by weak Qi and Blood. Use Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasure Decoction) with doubled amounts of Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma). If there is aversion to cold and a cold sensation in the body, this is Yang Qi deficiency and coldness. Use Shiquan Dabu Tang (Ten Great Tonifying Decoction). If the skin feels itchy as if covered by silk, this is because Qi and Blood cannot nourish the exterior; use Renshen Yangying Tang (Ginseng Nourishing Camp Decoction). If the face feels numb when scratched, this is because Qi and Blood cannot ascend to nourish the head and face; use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction). If there is flaccidity and tendon spasms, this is because Qi and Blood cannot nourish the sinews and bones; use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) combined with Liuwei Dihuang Wan (Six-Ingredient Rehmannia Pill).
First, nodules appearing all over the body, or hidden rashes with itching, are caused by Wind-Heat injuring the Blood. Use Qianghuo Danggui San (Notopterygii and Angelica Powder). For those with Qi deficiency, combine with Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) added with Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus) and Goutenggou (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis). For those with Blood deficiency, combine with JiaWei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) added with Goutenggou (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis). If the hands and feet have cracked skin, regardless of whether the complexion is dark or fair, or if white skin scales up on the hands, feet, legs, and wrists after scratching, this is due to Wind-Heat causing dryness and obstruction. Use Qingwei San (Clear the Stomach Powder) added with Shaoyao (Paeoniae Radix).
Second, facial redness with itching, or loss of eyebrows, belongs to Wind-Heat in the Lung Channel. Use Ren Shen Xiao Feng San (Ginseng Eliminating Wind Powder) and Huapi San (Birch Bark Powder). For Qi deficiency, use Buzhong Yiqi Tang (Tonify the Middle and Augment the Qi Decoction) added with Tianma (Gastrodiae Rhizoma) and Jiangcan (Bombyx Batryticatus). For Blood deficiency, use JiaWei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder) added with Goutenggou (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis). If purple blisters appear on the face, or form lumps, or if eyebrows fall out, this belongs to Wind-Heat in the Liver Channel. First use Xiaochaihu Tang (Minor Bupleurum Decoction) added with Shanzhi (Gardeniae Fructus), Danpi (Moutan Cortex), and Goutenggou (Uncariae Ramulus cum Uncis); subsequently use JiaWei Xiaoyao San (Modified Free and Easy Wanderer Powder). For any syndrome belonging to Wind generated from Blood dryness in the Liver Channel, one should only nourish Kidney Water to generate Liver Blood, so that Fire will naturally subside, Wind will settle, and itching will cease.
Third, regarding concurrent and transformed syndromes of Li Yang (Leprosy/Severe Skin Diseases), such as various diseases of the Exterior, Interior, Zang, and Fu organs, none are absent. Their respective treatment methods are already fully detailed in their respective sections. However, upon encountering specific cases, one should apply them flexibly according to the syndrome, achieving versatility and effectiveness without fail. Re-recording them here would be overly cumbersome, so they are not repeated.
Fourth, if applying Pishuang (Realgar/Arsenic compound) causes pain or ulceration at the site, frequently apply and replace with wet mud. If the toxin enters the abdomen, causing distress in the chest and diaphragm, or vomiting and diarrhea, drinking one or two cups of cold rice vinegar will stop it; consuming more is also acceptable. Raw Green Bean Powder (Lüdou Mo) and Sesame Oil are both suitable. If applying medicines containing Xionghuang (Realgar) causes mental confusion, vomiting, or diarrhea, use Fangji Decoction (Stephania Decoction) to resolve the toxicity. If taking acrid-hot medicines leads to loss of eyebrows and hair, this is due to injury of Liver Blood and stirring of Fire, not Wind. Use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) and Liuwei Wan (Six-Ingredient Pill) to nourish Liver Blood and generate Kidney Water. If taking Chuanwu (Aconiti Radix Preparata) or Caowu (Aconiti Kusnezoffii Radix Preparata) causes mental confusion, salivation, coma, vomiting, bleeding, or hematemesis, use Soybean (Dadou), Yuanzhi (Polygalae Radix), Fangfeng (Saposhnikoviae Radix), or Gancao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma); choose any one herb to decoct in water to resolve the toxicity. Generally, excessive intake of Wind-dispelling herbs can be resolved by these methods; if ineffective, urgently use Gancao (Licorice Root) and Ginger Juice. If applying medicines containing Badou (Crotonis Fructus) causes pain and muscle ulceration at the site, grind raw Huanglian (Coptidis Rhizoma) into powder, mix with water, and apply externally. If the toxin enters the interior, causing vomiting and diarrhea, take one or two qian mixed with water, or use large/small beans or Changpu juice (Acori Tatarinowii Rhizoma Juice). If applying Lili (Veratrum nigrum) causes internal toxicity, decoct Scallion (Cong Bai) water to resolve it. If taking Wind-dispelling and draining medicines causes vomiting, poor appetite, chest discomfort, or fatigue and weakness of form and Qi, use Liujunzi Tang (Six Gentlemen Decoction) to tonify Yang Qi. If there is irritability, heat, thirst, lack of appetite, afternoon fever, internal heat, facial redness, and fever, use Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) added with Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) and Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) to generate Yin Blood. Other cases should be treated according to the methods in their respective sections.
