Pungent, salty, neutral in nature, non-toxic. Those with a bluish-green color enter the Liver channel and exert a stronger effect; those with a yellowish color also affect the Spleen but are secondary in efficacy. Nux Salprunellae (Xiaoshi) should be pounded into an extremely fine powder and prepared by water levigation (Shuifei).
[Invention] Qingmengshi is a herb for the Jueyin channel. Its nature is descending, treating excessive Wind-Wood that constrains Earth-Spleen, leading to qi stagnation and failure of transformation, resulting in accumulation and phlegm generation. This phlegm obstructs above the diaphragm, transforming into various diseases such as wind-heat. Therefore, this heavy and sinking herb is suitable to drain downwards, calming the Wood and descending the qi, thereby unblocking phlegm accumulations and eliminating all symptoms. Nowadays, people use Wang Yinjun's Guntan Wan to treat all strange phlegm disorders indiscriminately, regardless of deficiency, excess, cold, or heat, which is highly inappropriate. One must understand that phlegm arises from the Spleen and Stomach's inability to transform and transport, leading to accumulation. For phlegm that is sticky and tenacious, this formula is indeed appropriate. However, if phlegm is formed due to Yin deficiency with flaming fire scorching body fluids, misusing this drug will further deplete Yin and intensify Yang fire. The phlegm-heat will not be removed, while the Spleen and Stomach will be damaged first. Moreover, for those with Spleen-Stomach deficiency-cold, poor appetite, and loose stools, taking this drug will cause incessant diarrhea, bringing disaster swiftly. In children, it may easily transform into Slow Spleen Wind syndrome, often leading to untreatable conditions. How can one not be cautious?
Also known as Huarui Shi
Acidic, pungent, warm in nature, non-toxic. Produced in Shanzhou, Huazhou, and other commanderies. It is yellow with pale white spots, hence its name. Additionally, there are five-colored varieties found in the valleys of Daizhou.
Preparation method: Take five taels of Hua Ru Shi (Flower Milk Stone), mix with two taels of Realgar (Liu Huang), place them in a crucible heated until red, seal tightly with salt mud, apply top-fire calcination, grind into a fine powder, and prepare by water levigation.
[Invention] Hua Ru Shi is produced in mountains rich in sulfur. Its nature is strongly warm, and it is a herb for the blood aspect of the Jueyin channel. Ge Kejiu used Huarui Shi San (Huarui Shi Powder) to treat consumptive hemorrhage, because its warm nature is good at dispersing blood stasis and knots. The *Heji Jufang* (Formulas of the Bureau of Taiyi) treats injuries from metal blades or arrows, or severe blows causing near-death states, where there are external wounds. Applying the finely ground, calcined powder to the wound causes the blood to turn into yellow fluid; reapplying it revives the patient. If internal injury has caused blood to enter the viscera, decoct child's urine, add a small amount of wine, mix, and administer one qianbi (a small measure); immediate efficacy is expected. For postpartum women suffering from evil blood rushing to the heart, causing fainting and unconsciousness, or fetal death in the womb with retained placenta leading to death, provided the chest remains warm, urgently administer one qian mixed with child's urine. Expelling the evil blood brings relief. If blood above the diaphragm transforms into yellow fluid, vomiting it out immediately or excreting it via urine yields excellent results. However, for those with Yin deficiency and flaming fire without blood stasis in the middle jiao, misuse will surely lead to danger.
