Heavy in nature, harmonizes blood and promotes healing of injuries.
Salty flavor enters the Blood aspect. Sweet flavor harmonizes blood. Treats metal wounds (Jinchuang) and fractures, carbuncles, sores, swelling, and toxicity. (Grind with vinegar and apply externally.) Relieves pain and generates flesh. Produced in Sichuan and Guangdong, it is a small black stone,
one
package contains hundreds of pieces. (For traumatic injury causing swelling and pain, grind Wu Ming Yi into powder and take with wine to disperse blood stasis in the extremities of the limbs.)
Also known as E Guan Shi (Goose Tube Stone). Tonifies Yang.
Sweet and warm. A herb acting on the Qi aspect of the Yangming channel. (Corresponds to the Stomach.) It is the essence of Stalactite (Zhong Ru Shi). Strengthens Yin and benefits Yang. Unblocks all joints. Opens the nine orifices. Tonifies deficiency and fatigue. Promotes lactation.
Its qi is vigorous. It causes Yang Qi to suddenly become abundant. Food intake increases significantly. Those who are ignorant may misuse this herb for excessive sexual activity, leading to carbuncles, strangury, and turbid discharge. Is this the fault of Zhong Ru Shi? Generally, those with
deficiency of Fire at the Gate of Life (Ming Men) can use it temporarily. Otherwise, it will be harmful. It is found in caves, formed from condensed stone liquid, hanging down like ice pillars. Like goose feather tubes. When broken, it resembles fingernails. Those that are bright and lustrous are genuine. She Chuang Zi (Cnidium Fruit) acts as its guide. It fears Zi Shi Ying (Fluorite). Dislikes Mu Dan Pi (Tree Peony Bark). Avoids Hu Sui (Dill), Scallion, Garlic, Sheep Blood, Ren Shen (Ginseng), and Bai Zhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome). (For lung deficiency causing incessant panting, take 5 qian of raw, bright Zhong Ru Shi powder, mix with 3 liang of beeswax, melt together, steam in a rice steamer until cooked, grind into pills the size of wutong seeds, and swallow one pill with warm water.)
Also known as Shi Tan (Coal/Stone Carbon). Drying, dispels cold and pain.
Sweet, acrid, warm, and toxic. Treats women's Qi and Blood pain, various toxic sores, metal wound bleeding, pediatric phlegm epilepsy. Removes tin stains. Modulates San Huang (Three Yellows), Zhu Sha (Cinnabar), and Xiao Shi (Saltpeter). People poisoned by gas fumes may fall into coma and die; only drinking cold water can resolve it. (For metal wound bleeding, urgently apply thick paste of Shi Tan powder. If the wound is deep and should not heal quickly, add Hua Shi (Talcum Powder).)
Heavy, drying dampness, stops bleeding.
Acrid, warm, and highly toxic. Can solidify substances and dissipate blood stasis. Relieves pain, generates flesh, stops metal wound bleeding. (In the twelfth lunar month, fill cattle gallbladder with fresh bile, dry in shade for use.)
Kills
sores parasites. (Ulcers on the calf forming fistulas, named Shan Lou (Eel Fistula), soak and fumigate with warm water decoction of Duan Shi. Itching indicates efficacy. Wash several times until healed. For insects infesting crops, sprinkle directly to remove, or mix into bean cake manure and grass.) Erodes foul flesh. Eliminates scars and blemishes. (Mix with medicine to moxa spots.) Resolves sourness from alcohol. (Brewers often use it, but wine containing ash harms the body.) Internally used to stop diarrhea, dysentery, metrorrhagia, and leukorrhea. Draws in Yin protrusion (Yin Ting) (fleshy protrusion from the vagina, also called Yin Jun, or failure of the vaginal opening to close postpartum, stir-fry until yellow, soak in water, clarify, and wash with warm liquid). Rectal prolapse. Dissolves accumulations and scrofula nodules. Weathered ones are superior. Ancient mineral ash. (Named Di Gu Long, those from coffins are especially good.) After fire toxins are expelled, it mainly treats stubborn sores with profuse pus and drainage, and is excellent for closing wound openings. (Phlegm nodules with redness, swelling, and alternating chills and fever, resembling scrofula, burn Duan Shi into powder, mash together with white ginkgo nuts and apply topically. If no ginkgo nuts are available, mix with honey.)
