Mutton (Sheep Meat)
Sweet in flavor, warm in nature. Enters the Liver and Stomach meridians. Excellent efficacy in nourishing blood. Strengthens yang function. Treats deficiency consumptive diseases. Potent in generating wind [pathogenic factor]. Swallowing raw sheep blood can resolve stone toxicity. Taking Yanggan Wan (Sheep Liver Pill) is beneficial for ophthalmic conditions. (Mutton is sweet in flavor, has a muttony odor, is hot in nature, and non-toxic. It enters the Spleen, Stomach, and Liver meridians. Using form to supplement form, it is suitable for various deficiency-cold patterns such as abdominal masses, hernias, and acute abdominal pain. However, it should only be used when the Spleen and Stomach functions are not yet depleted and can transform and transport nutrients; otherwise, its greasy and turbid nature may be detrimental. Furthermore, it easily generates wind and triggers toxins; thus, it is contraindicated in cases with external pathogenic manifestations or wind-toxins. ○ Sheep blood is salty, neutral, and non-toxic. The white variety taken hot orally is effective. It resolves all types of stone toxicity and herbal toxicity. It also invigorates blood circulation and treats postpartum blood stagnation, blood attack, and blood stasis patterns. ○ Although ancient formulas use sheep liver to treat eye diseases, this relies merely on the principle of using the organ to target the corresponding organ as a guide. Its actual therapeutic value is limited, and using sheep gallbladder is superior.)
Regurgitation and dysphagia are both alleviated, relying on its sweet and neutral nature. Carbuncles, sores, and furuncles are healed, entirely due to the power of its "treasure" qi. (Gou Bao [Dog Gallstone] forms in the abdomen of a mange-infected dog. It resembles white stone, layered and attractive. Although it has efficacy in treating regurgitation, dysphagia, carbuncles, sores, and furuncles, like Niu Huang [Calculus Bovis], it arises from disease. Similar to human calculi or abdominal masses, even in humans with jaundice, yellowish masses may form in the gallbladder and stomach. From this perspective, the theory that it forms from consuming immortal herbs is understandable. However, whether good, toxic, beautiful, or poor, each has its application. For instance, Niu Huang enters the Liver, while Gou Bao enters the Heart; practitioners should apply their judgment accordingly.)
Tiger Bone
Obtains the Metal Qi of the West to pacify the Liver. Relieves pain, expels wind, and strengthens bones. Its nature and flavor are pungent, warm, and non-toxic. Expels evil spirits, kills demons, and calms the soul. When decocted into gelatin, it兼具 tonifying properties. (Tiger Bone. The tiger is the leader of beasts, causing fear in other animals upon sight. Thus, it can dispel malevolent influences, calm the spirit and soul, and settle palpitations and fright. The tiger's strength lies in its shanks; even after death, it stands without falling. Hence, it strengthens sinews and bones, boosts qi and strength. The saying "wind follows the tiger" refers to Wind-Wood element. The tiger represents Metal. Wood controlled by Metal naturally submits. Therefore, it pursues wind-toxins and treats bone-joint bi-syndrome [painful obstruction] and similar conditions. When boiled into gelatin, it incorporates blood-nourishing properties within its wind-expelling and bone-strengthening actions.)
