Xianrenzhang (Immortal's Cane) treats hiccup, qi rebellion, and vomiting; it expels pathogenic factors. For infants spitting up milk and adults vomiting food, decoct with water and take orally. It also treats infantile convulsions and night crying, effectively calming the spirit and aiding sleep. Furthermore, it treats hemorrhoids; burn to ash, powder, and take one fangcun bi (a measure equivalent to a square inch) per dose (Recorded by Famous Physicians). [Seedling] [Tu Jing states] This refers to the bamboo shoots that die immediately before maturing into bamboo; they are black as lacquer, and mostly grow on bitter bamboo. Another variety of Xianrenzhang grows in the flat marshes of Jiannan; its leaves resemble bitter lettuce, grows in clusters, tastes sweet, is slightly warm in nature, non-toxic, and when consumed can strengthen bones and tendons, prevent aging. When eaten as a vegetable, it eliminates phlegm accumulation and dispels wind-cold. Chen Zi'ang wrote in his Preface to Guan Yu Pian: "In the fourth month of summer, stationed at the river isles of Zhangye, there were no other abnormalities among grasses and trees, only Xianrenzhang growing in clusters." My family has taken it for generations; I have previously ingested it. On this journey, someone recommended fine vegetables, and this item remains. Is it not intended to support my longevity?
