Non-toxic, grows in soil.
Jingquan Shi (Well Spring Stone) treats various heat syndromes, eye swelling and pain, resolves cardiac heat accumulation, eliminates swelling and toxicity, and treats pediatric heat-related malnutrition (re-ye) and night blindness with blue-white film (as recorded by famous physicians). [Origin] The "Tu Jing" records: It is produced in Ju Jia Village, 20 li west of Chengxi, Shenzhou. The underground spring water is about one zhang deep. The stone resembles earth in color; its shapes vary—round, square, long, short, large, small—with a solid interior and rounded exterior, appearing in layered, overlapping intersections. One type is considered superior. Those from Raoyang Commandery are even better. Those found in fields require digging more than one zhang deep to retrieve. There is another type resembling Jiang Shi (Ginger Stone), which people often mistakenly identify as Jingquan Shi; this is incorrect. [Harvesting Time] Any time. [Selection Criteria] Those with layered overlap are preferred. [Color] Blue-black. [Nature] Greatly cold. [Qi Property] Thin Qi, Yin within Yang. [Odor] Rotten. [Indications] Treats various heat toxins. [Preparation] Grind into fine powder and use the water-floating method. [Combinations] Combined with Dahuang (Rhubarb Rhizome) and Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit) to treat eyelid swelling; combined with Jueming Zi (Cassiae Semen), Dan Nan Xing (Arisaema cum Bile), and Juhua (Chrysanthemi Flos) to treat pediatric eye re-ye with membrane formation, which is very effective; also treats heat cough. [Contraindications] Improper preparation may cause the patient to suffer from Lin syndrome (dysuria).
Toxic, grows in rocks.
Cang Shi (Blue Stone) treats alternating chills and fever, directs Qi downward, and kills birds and beasts (as recorded by famous physicians). [Origin] The "Tu Jing" records: Produced in the Western Regions. (Note in "Tang Bencao"): Specifically grown Cang Shi is also called "Cang Shi". Liangzhou specifically produces some that are green. Currently, Fangling and Hanchuan have stones co-existing with Bai Shi (White Stone); the green ones can poison birds and beasts, similar to [missing character] Shi. People in Hanzhong use it to poison rats, but it is not used in prescriptions. This stone is produced in Liangzhou, Junzhou, and Fangzhou, co-existing with two types of stones. Specifically grown Cang Shi also grows in the Western Regions, in Hanchuan and Jinzhou. [Harvesting Time] Any time. [Color] Blue/Grey. [Taste] Sweet. [Nature] Mild/Even. [Qi Property] Qi is stronger than taste, Yin within Yang. [Odor] Rotten.
Huaru Shi (Flower Milk Stone) treats metal wounds and stops bleeding, and also treats postpartum blood syncope and lochia stasis (as recorded by famous physicians). [Name] Huarui Shi (Flower Stamen Stone). [Origin] The "Tu Jing" records: Produced in Sha and Hua commanderies. Those from Wenxiang County are extremely hard and heavy, yellow like sulfur, in irregular block shapes of varying sizes and forms. Shaanxi people carve them into vessels; ancient formulas did not use them. (Note in "Yanyi"): Inside the yellow stone are pale white spots, hence the name "Flower". The "Huaru Shi San" (Flower Milk Stone Powder) currently used by the Huimin Bureau uses this stone. [Harvesting Time] Any time. [Texture] Similar to sulfur, with pale white spots, hard and heavy. [Color] Yellow-white. [Odor] Rotten. [Indications] Postpartum blood syncope. [Preparation] Fire until red-hot, then grind into fine powder. [Treatment] (Therapy) ("Tu Jing"
