典藏书目

Wubeizi (Galla Chinensis), old texts do not specify the provinces or regions of origin, stating it is found everywhere; currently, those from Shu are considered superior. It grows on the leaves of *Rhus chinensis* (Flesh Tree), fruits in the seventh lunar month without flowers; the tree has a greenish-yellow bark; the fruit is green, turning yellow when ripe, with large ones the size of a fist, containing many insects inside. Collected in the ninth lunar month and sun-dried, it is best for generating body fluids.

Jinyingzi (Cherokee Rose Fruit), old texts do not specify the provinces or regions of origin, stating it is found everywhere; currently, it is abundant in southern provinces, with those from Jiangxi, Jiannan, and Lingwai being superior. It grows in clusters in suburbs and wilderness, resembling *Rosa multiflora* (Multiflora Rose) but with thorns; it blooms white flowers in the fourth lunar month; it fruits in summer and autumn, also bearing thorns, with a yellow-red color and shape resembling a small pomegranate. Collected in the eleventh and twelfth lunar months. People in Jiangnan and Shu boil it into a paste and take it with wine, claiming special efficacy in tonification and treatment. The tribute supplied from Yizhou is referred to as Ying Shi (*Rosa laevigata* fruit) in herbal classics. The commentary states that those blooming white flowers are superior, which refers to this one. Current verification of descriptions from various prefectures shows it is distinct from Ying Shi. Both Hongzhou and Changzhou can boil its fruit to make paste, which is sent to the capital; households use it mixed with *Euryale ferox* seed (Qian Shi, 芡实) to prepare "Shuilu Dan" (Water and Land Pill), which is excellent for benefiting qi and tonifying essence.

Xuisui Zi (Euphorbia lathyris Seed), grows in Shu and is found everywhere; currently abundant in the south, less common in the north. The seedling resembles *Euphorbia pekinensis* (Peking Spurge); initially producing a single stem, with leaves at the tip, from which several stems emerge continuously; the flower also resembles *Euphorbia*, emerging from the leaf axils on a stalk; the fruit is green with a shell. It is widely planted in gardens and pavilions for decoration. Planted in autumn, it grows in winter, bolts and flowers in spring, and fruits in summer, hence also named Judong (Rejecting Winter). The fruit is used in medicine, collected at any time. It expels water retention most rapidly but is toxic and damaging to the human body, so it should not be taken in excess. Cui Yuanliang's *Haishang Fang* (Prescriptions from the Sea Above) treats snake bites, swelling and toxicity, and suffocating sensations approaching death by using 6 fen of Chongtai (Radix Bupleuri? Note: Context implies specific herb, likely *Bupleurum* or similar root, here kept as Chongtai) and 7 seeds of Xuisui Zi (peeled). The two substances are bundled, sifted, and ground into powder. Take one cun bi (a measure of volume) with wine, mixed with saliva, and apply to the bite site; recovery is immediate. The white juice from the stem applied to the face to remove spots is very effective.
