Tonify Heart and Spleen
Sweet in flavor, warm in nature, entering the Spleen meridian. It benefits the Spleen and enhances intelligence (also known as Yizhi), nourishes the Heart and tonifies blood (the Heart is the Mother of the Spleen); therefore, it is used in Guipi Tang (Return to the Spleen Decoction). It treats conditions resulting from excessive thinking and mental labor damaging the Heart and Spleen, as well as intestinal wind with bleeding (The Heart governs the generation of blood, and the Spleen governs the control of blood. Excessive thinking damages the Heart and Spleen and consumes blood, leading to various diseases such as forgetfulness, palpitations, and fright. Guipi Tang guides blood back to the Spleen to generate and tonify it. Intestinal wind bleeding also occurs due to blood failing to return to the Spleen and acting recklessly).
Disperse Cold and Dampness
Sweet and astringent in flavor, warm in nature. Enters the Liver and Kidney meridians. It disperses stagnant Qi and repels cold pathogens. It treats epigastric pain and Qi-blood pain in women (Preserve five qian of the herb, one liang of Cyperi Rhizoma, grind into powder, take two qian per dose, with salt water or rice drink, named Juantong San (Pain-Relieving Powder). Taking it alone or with vinegar water is also effective). The fruits grow in pairs, and the kernels resemble testicles (Gao sounds like Gao, referring to the kidneys/testes); thus, it treats hernia and swollen testes, following the principle of "describing categories by morphology" (Preserve the herb, mix with wine for administration; adding Foeniculi Fructus and Tangerinae Pericarpium, stir-fried and ground into powder, taken with wine, is also good). The shell promotes the eruption of smallpox, used after burning to preserve its nature. Lychee skin ground together stops hiccups (Eating too many raw lychees causes intoxication; soaking the peanut shells in water can resolve this. This follows the principle that undigested food can be resolved by the original substance).
Moisten the Lungs
Sweet and astringent. Moistens the Lungs (Although *Bencao* texts do not explicitly state it moistens, it is indeed a moistening agent. Thus, Kou Zhi said: eating more moistens the intestines). Kills parasites (For those with parasitic accumulation, it is advisable to eat it daily during the first ten days of the lunar month; consuming one jin will eliminate the parasites).
Moisten Dryness
Sweet and warm. Moistens the Lungs and warms the Stomach, disperses fluid retention and eliminates wind pathogens. Treats cough (One liang of Pini Semen, two liang of Juglans Semen, mixed with refined honey and taken, treats dryness-cough) and deficiency-type constipation (Combined with Baidouren (Platycladi Semen) and Haren (Cannabis Semen), melted wax formed into pills, named Sanren Wan (Three Seeds Pill)). Produced in Liaodong and Yunnan; pine seeds have five needles.
Tonify Spleen and Moisten Lungs
Pungent flavor moistens the Lungs; fragrance relaxes the Spleen. A fine fruit, produced in Fujian and Guangdong. It grows on vines, flowers fall to the ground and bear fruit, hence the name (Note: Arachis Hypogaea (Peanut) was not included in *Bencao* texts and originally had no medicinal use, but it truly benefits the Spleen and moistens the Lungs, making it an excellent fruit. Since many people criticize it, it is appended here to clarify that it is beneficial and harmless). Stir-fry and eat.
