[Flavor and Nature]
Sweet, cold, non-toxic. Enters the Foot-Taiyang (Bladder) Meridian.
[Maintaining Health / Indications]
Promotes urination. Clears accumulated cold and heat in the stomach. Unblocks the fluid metabolism of the Nine Orifices and Six Fu Organs. Removes stagnation and stops thirst. Since Talcum (Huashi) has a sweet and bland flavor, it first enters the Stomach, permeates and moves through the meridians, circulating to benefit fluids and Qi, transporting upwards to the Lung, and downwards to the Bladder. The Lung governs the skin and hair and is the upper source of water; the Bladder manages fluids, and through Qi transformation, they are excreted. Talcum can release the exterior from above and promote water pathways from below; it is an agent that clears heat and dries dampness. Releasing the exterior clears heat from the Upper and Middle Jiao; promoting water pathways clears heat from the Middle and Lower Jiao. Releasing the exterior dries dampness in the Upper and Middle Jiao; promoting water pathways dries dampness in the Middle and Lower Jiao. When heat dissipates, the Triple Burner becomes tranquil, and the interior and exterior harmonize. When dampness is removed, the Lanmen (lower opening of the intestines) becomes unobstructed, and Yin and Yang flow smoothly. Liu Hejian used Yi Yuan San (Benefit Prime Powder) to treat various diseases of the interior, exterior, upper, and lower parts, presumably because he deeply understood this principle.
[Flavor and Nature]
Pungent, warm, non-toxic. Light and ascending, belonging to Yang. Enters the Hand-Taiyin (Lung) and Foot-Jueyin (Liver) Meridians.
[Maintaining Health / Indications]
Unblocks joints. Relieves fatigue and debility. Treats pediatric wind-phlegm. Induces sweating to expel toxins. Clears wind-heat from the head and eyes. Can guide other herbs into the Ying (Nutritive) and Wei (Defensive) levels. Also treats bone-steaming consumptive fever. Explores and regulates Liver Qi. Also treats excess conditions of the Lung.
[Flavor and Nature]
Sweet, warm, non-toxic. Light and ascending, belonging to Yang. Enters the Hand-Taiyang (Small Intestine) and Foot-Taiyang (Bladder) Meridians. Also circulates through the Foot-Yangming (Stomach) and Foot-Taiyin (Spleen) Meridians. It is a herb acting on the Qi level of the Liver Meridian.
[Maintaining Health / Indications]
Generally treats wind disorders. Effectively drains Lung excess. Disperses stagnant Qi in the head and eyes. Eliminates wind pathogens in the Upper Jiao. Although its status is humble like that of common soldiers, it reaches everywhere following its guiding function. If tonifying the Spleen and Stomach, without this guiding agent, the treatment cannot proceed. For cases of spinal pain, neck stiffness with inability to look back, waist feeling as if broken, and neck feeling as if pulled, these are symptoms of the Hand and Foot Taiyang meridians; without this herb, dispersion is not possible. For sores located above the chest and diaphragm, even without Hand and Foot Taiyang symptoms, if wind is knotted in the upper part, without this herb, dissemination is not possible. In Xie Huang San (Drain Yellow Powder), Fangfeng (Saposhnikovia Root) is doubled to drain Wood within Earth (i.e., suppress Liver overacting on Spleen). Combined with Scallion White (Congbai), it circulates throughout the body. Combined with Alisma (Zexie) and Angelica Dahurica (Baizhu/Bai Zhi context implies Bai Zhi here for wind), it treats wind. Combined with Dang Gui (Angelica Sinensis) and Shao Yao (Peony), it treats uterine wind in women.
Incompatible with: Veratrum (Lilu), Ginger (Ganjiang).
Detoxified by: Dioscorea Hypoglauca (Bixie) neutralizes the toxicity of Aconite (Fuzi).
