虚热。得生地酒煮服治带下。若吐血尿血。捣鲜汁服效。妇人阴肿或生疮。以之煎水频洗良
。中寒及便溏者忌。甘草水浸一宿用。有汗之骨蒸最宜。
味酸。入足厥阴少阴经。功专助阳固阴。得熟地补肾虚。得五味摄精气。强阳不
痿。小便不利者忌用。核滑精。用尤宜去。陈者良。恶防己、防风、桔梗。
【肉桂】
味道甘、辛。归入足厥阴肝经。功效专门治疗沉寒痼冷（深伏体内的寒邪）。能益火消阴（补益命门之火以消散阴寒），通经催生（疏通经络，促进分娩）。与人参、麦冬、甘草同用，能补益中气。与紫石英同用，可治疗呕吐逆气。与茯苓、猪苓、泽泻、白术同用，能利水渗湿。使用时需去除粗皮。与人参、甘草、麦冬配合使用效果良好。忌与生葱、赤石脂同用。对于足部筋脉拘急，将桂末与白酒调和后涂抹，有效。对于外肾（睾丸）偏肿，用水调敷桂末也均有效。产自交趾（今越南北部）的肉桂品质优良。
【桂心】
味道苦。归入手少阴心经和足太阴脾经。功效专门引导血液化为汗液，内托痈疽（使体内脓毒向外透发）。与丁香同用可治疗痘疮灰塌（痘疹塌陷不起）。能消除瘀血，生成新肌，补益虚寒，宣通气血，利关节，治疗风痹症瘕（风湿痹痛及腹内结块）、噎膈（吞咽困难）、腹部胀满以及心腹各种疼痛。桂枝去皮后称为桂心。
【桂枝】
味道辛、温。归入足太阳膀胱经。功效专门温通经脉，祛除风邪，止汗。与芍药、甘草同用，能调和营卫（调节营气和卫气）。与雄鸡肝同用，可治疗小儿遗尿。阴虚者忌服。
【嫩桂枝/叶】
味道辛、温。与百药煎、孩儿茶制成膏饼含咽，生津液，辟除口臭，化痰。治疗风虫牙痛。与麻油蒸熟后可润泽头发，也可制作面部护肤品。用叶子煎汤洗发，可去垢除风。嫩枝即为桂枝。
【天精草】
味道甘。归入足厥阴肝经和足少阴肾经。功效专门补益精血。与杜仲、萆薢同用，治疗肾虚腰痛。与青盐、川椒同用，治疗肝虚目暗（视力模糊）。叶子名为天精草，味苦、甘而凉，清泄上焦心肺的客热，代茶饮用可止消渴（糖尿病样症状）。子实需用酒润捣碎使用，与熟地黄配合效果良好。大便滑泄者宜避开。
【地骨皮】
味道甘、淡，微苦。归入手太阴肺经。功效专门退热除烦。与麦冬、小麦同用，治疗劳渴（虚劳引起的口渴）。与青蒿子同用，治疗虚热。与生地黄用酒煮服，治疗带下病。如果是吐血或尿血，捣取鲜汁服用有效。妇女外阴肿胀或生疮，用其煎水频繁清洗效果良好。中寒及大便溏薄者忌用。用甘草水浸泡一夜后使用。对于有汗的骨蒸潮热最为适宜。
【山茱萸】
味道酸。归入足厥阴肝经和足少阴肾经。功效专门助阳固阴。与熟地黄同用，补肾虚。与五味子同用，摄纳精气。能使阳气强健而不痿软。小便不利者忌用。核会导致滑精，使用时尤其应当去除。陈久的药材品质优良。畏防己、防风、桔梗。
[Cinnamomi Cortex (Rou Gui)]
Taste: Sweet, Acrid. Meridian Tropism: Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian. Actions: Specifically treats deep-seated cold and chronic cold conditions. Benefits Fire to dissipate Yin (tonates Mingmen Fire to dispel cold), unifies meridians, and facilitates childbirth. When combined with Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma (Renshen), Ophiopogonis Radix (Maidong), and Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma (Gancao), it benefits Middle Qi. Combined with Purified Pyrum (Zishi Ying), it treats vomiting and rebellious Qi. Combined with Poria (Fuling), Polyporus (Zhuling), Alisma Rhizoma (Zexie), and Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma (Baizhu), it promotes water metabolism. Use after removing the rough bark. It is effective when combined with Renshen, Gancao, and Maidong. Contraindicated with raw Allium fistulosum (Cong) and Red Earth Stone (Shizhi). For tendon spasm in the foot, apply Cinnamomi Cortex powder mixed with white wine externally; this is effective. For unilateral swelling of the external genitalia, applying Cinnamomi Cortex powder mixed with water is also effective. The variety produced in Jiaozhi (modern-day Northern Vietnam) is of superior quality.
[Cinnamomi Cortex Medulla (Gui Xin)]
Taste: Bitter. Meridian Tropism: Hand Shaoyin Heart Meridian and Foot Taiyin Spleen Meridian. Actions: Specifically guides blood to transform into sweat, and internally supports the expulsion of carbuncles and sores. Combined with Eugeniae Flos (Dingxiang), it treats collapsed acneiform eruptions. Eliminates stasis, generates flesh, tonifies deficiency-cold, circulates Qi and Blood, benefits joints, treats wind-bi and masses, dysphagia, abdominal fullness, and various pains in the heart and abdomen. Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi) without its bark is called Cinnamomi Cortex Medulla (Guixin).
[Cinnamomi Ramulus (Guizhi)]
Taste: Acrid, Warm. Meridian Tropism: Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Actions: Specifically warms meridians and unifies vessels, expels wind, and stops sweating. Combined with Paeoniae Radix Alba (Shaoyao) and Gancao, it harmonizes Ying and Wei (Nutritive and Defensive levels). Combined with the liver of a rooster, it treats nocturnal enuresis in children. Contraindicated in patients with Yin deficiency.
[Young Cinnamomi Ramulus / Leaves]
Taste: Acrid, Warm. Combined with Bai Yao Jian and Child's Tea (Haier Cha) to make paste tablets for sucking, it generates fluids, eliminates bad breath, and resolves phlegm. Treats wind-worm toothache. Steamed with Sesamum indicum oil (Mayou), it moistens hair and can be used as facial cream. Washing hair with decoction of leaves removes dirt and expels wind. Young branches are referred to as Guizhi.
[Tianjing Cao - Leaves of Cinnamomum]
Taste: Sweet. Meridian Tropism: Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian and Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Actions: Specifically tonifies Essence and Blood. Combined with Eucommiae Cortex (Duzhong) and Dioscoreae Hypoglaucae Rhizoma (Bixie), it treats lower back pain due to Kidney deficiency. Combined with Green Salt (Qingyan) and Zanthoxyli Fructus (Chuanjiao), it treats dim vision due to Liver deficiency. The leaves are named Tianjing Cao. Taste: Bitter, Sweet, Cool. Clears exogenous heat in the Upper Jiao (Heart and Lungs). Used as tea to treat polydipsia. The fruit should be moistened with wine and pounded before use; it is effective when combined with Prepared Rehmanniae Radix (Shudihuang). Avoid in patients with loose stools.
[Dugupi - Cortex Lycii Radicis]
Taste: Sweet, Pale, slightly Bitter. Meridian Tropism: Hand Taiyin Lung Meridian. Actions: Specifically reduces fever and relieves irritability. Combined with Maidong and Triticum aestivum (Xiaomai), it treats thirst due to consumption diseases. Combined with Artemisiae Annuae Semen (Qinghaozi), it treats deficient heat. Taken with wine after boiling with Rehmanniae Radix (Shengdi), it treats leukorrhea. For hematemesis or hematuria, taking fresh juice extracted by pounding is effective. For vulvar swelling or sores in women, frequent washing with decoction is beneficial. Contraindicated in patients with Interior Cold and loose stools. Soak in Licorice water overnight before use. It is most suitable for bone-steaming fever accompanied by sweating.
[Shanzhuyu - Corni Fructus]
Taste: Sour. Meridian Tropism: Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian and Foot Shaoyin Kidney Meridian. Actions: Specifically assists Yang and secures Yin. Combined with Shudihuang, it tonifies Kidney deficiency. Combined with Schisandrae Fructus (Wuweizi), it grasps Essence and Qi. Strengthens Yang preventing flaccidity. Contraindicated in patients with difficulty urinating. The seed causes seminal emission; it should be removed before use. Older fruits are of better quality. Incompatible with Stephaniae Tetrandrae Radix (Fangji), Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng), and Platycodonis Radix (Jiegeng).
