[Songjie (Pine Joint)]
Bitter in taste, warm in nature, non-toxic. Treats joint pain caused by Li Jie Feng (Lichu Rheumatism), and alleviates weakness, pain, and bi-syndrome in the feet. It dries damp-cold within the blood and relieves toothache caused by wind erosion.
(Verified Formula 1): For all types of tendon pain, take one qian of Songjie (Pine Joint) and one fen of Xuxiang (Frankincense). Stir-fry over a small fire until charred, then grind into powder. Take one to two qian each time, washed down with Mugua wine (Quince Wine).
(Verified Formula 2): To treat Li Jie Feng pain, take three jin of Songjie (Pine Joint), soak in wine, and consume. Another method: Crush Songmao (Pine Needles) to extract juice, soak in wine for seven days, and drink.
[Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig)]
The rough outer bark should be removed before use. Those that are dense and extremely pungent are preferred.
Sweet and pungent in taste, very hot in nature, slightly toxic. It warms the middle jiao and promotes blood circulation, benefits Fire (Mingmen Fire) to dissipate Yin cold, consolidates sweat and stops pain, removes vexation, and can induce abortion.
Produced in Nanhai, Hepu, Jiaozhi, Guiyang, and other places. There are several varieties: Leaves long like loquat leaves, hard with hairs and serrated edges, white flowers, and oily bark are called Mogui (Male Cinnamon). Leaves like persimmon leaves but sharper, narrower, and smoother, with three longitudinal veins and no serrations, yellow or white flowers, and thin curled bark are called Jungui (Fungus Cinnamon), also known as Tonggui (Tube Cinnamon). Merchants currently sell these two types. The distinction is mainly that curled ones are Jungui, while flat or board-like ones are Mogui. Also, wood bark from Danyang is sometimes used to fake cinnamon; this must be known.
[Rouguixin (Cinnamon Heart)]
This refers to the inner part of Rougui (Cinnamon Bark) after removing both the outer rough bark and the inner layer.
Bitter and pungent in taste, non-toxic. Treats all kinds of wind-pathogens, eliminates nine types of heart pain. Warms the waist and knees to treat foot bi-syndrome, benefits bone joints to relieve tendon spasms, and resolves blood stasis.
[Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig)]
Pungent in taste, warm in nature, non-toxic. Enters the Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian and the Foot Taiyang Bladder Meridian. Opens the cou li (pores/skin texture) to release the muscle layer, unblocks meridians to consolidate sweat. Removes wind-dampness from the skin, stops accumulated blood stasis, and relieves wind-pain in the arms. It can stop Ben Tun (Rushing Pig Qi) and further resolve qi stagnation.
(Verified Formula 1): For nine types of heart pain, take Guixin (Cinnamon Heart) powder, wash down with two qian of wine each time. Guizhi (Cinnamon Twig) can also be used. (Verified Formula 1.)
