Produced in Guangdong, it is the flower of *Qingtengzi* (Green Vine Seed). In Cantonese: The leaves of *Qingtengzi* are three to four cun long, covered with many prickles, and the stem is as thick as a finger yet tough. Boiling it into a decoction for daily washing is effective for treating sores and scabies.
This is the flower of *Qianjincao* (Thousand Gold Grass). *Qianjincao* is the *Lancao* (Orchid Grass) mentioned in the *Shennong Bencao Jing*, also known today as *Hai'erju* (Child Chrysanthemum) or *Shengtoucao* (Head-Clearing Grass). In February, the perennial roots sprout again; it has purple stems with plain branches, red nodes with green leaves, growing opposite each other, glossy and forked. When tender, it can be worn as an ornament; by August and September, it matures, forming spikes on branch tips that bloom with red and white flowers resembling *Jisu* (Mint-like plant). After a long time, the petals turn white, and the flocculence splits into a ball shape containing one seed inside. The flocculence adheres to the seed, which is black and bitter in taste, with a foul yet fragrant odor upon splitting; this is the *Qianjinhua* (Thousand Gold Flower). Li Shizhen's *Bencao Gangmu* only records the use of its leaves. *Bencao Chengya Banjie* states: "Boiling *Qianjin* flower in wine yields an aroma similar to *Muxiang* (Aucklandia Root), with bitterness surpassing *Huanglian* (Coptis Rhizome); it is used to treat stagnant dysentery with rapid efficacy." Therefore, I adopted this statement and included it in the flower section to supplement what was previously incomplete. The flower has a fragrant aroma and bitter taste; steeping it in wine treats dysentery because it possesses the functions of warding off misfortune, promoting water passage, and disseminating qi to all directions (cited from *Bencao Chengya Banjie*).
*Shanhai Caohan*: Treats contusion-induced erysipelas, leprosy of the head, and burns/scalds.
Wang Lianshi says: It is currently called *Cuilingcao* (Emerald Feather Grass). Its emerald color surrounds like feathers, with fine leaves growing flat against the ground, differing from *Cuiyuncao* (Cloud Green Grass) and *Fengwei* (Phoenix Tail). Upon my investigation: This species is actually *Nialuo* (Creeping Fig/Vine). People now weave bamboo into pavilions and plant it in pots; the one that blooms with small large-red flowers in autumn is indeed this plant. It treats ear carbuncles and hemorrhoidal fistulas.
Also known as *Fo Jianxiao* (Buddha Laughs at Sight). Wang Lianshi says: Take its roots and leaves, dry them in the shade, grind into powder, and take with honey-sweetened water; it produces immediate results for critical typhoid fever. This is the view of Yuan Shengguan.
Wang Lianshi's *Caoyao Fang* (Herbal Formula): *Yujiu* (Rain Leek) grows beside marshes; it is the flower of *Qing Cigu* (Green Arrowhead). Its dampness-dispelling efficacy is the same as *Yinchen* (Artemisia Capillaris Herb). It disperses all types of carbuncle swellings, eliminates hemorrhoidal fistulas, and brightens the eyes.
Consolidates essence (*Wuli Xiaoshi*).
*Yungu Yichao*: For treating ulcerated legs, use old供奉 flowers from before the Buddha that have been kept for many years. Soak them in sesame oil and apply externally; healing occurs immediately.
