The root resembles that of bamboo, is yellow in color and has fibrous roots; the leaves are similar to *Cymbidium goeringii* (Jianhui) but shorter, with a length not exceeding one chi. In spring, shoots emerge, featuring dozens of very densely packed spots on the abaxial surface arranged in two opposite rows; they turn yellow after autumn frost. They grow at the foot of rocky mountains with creeping roots. *Baicao Jing* (Mirror of Hundred Herbs): Jin Xing Feng Wei (Venus Star Tail), its leaves are finely divided, resembling a phoenix's tail. Shoots and leaves emerge in the third lunar month, with star-like fine white dots on the back, turning yellow after autumn. It grows in stone crevices of ancient walls. Those growing towards the sun are superior. It is only applicable for excess-heat syndromes. Its nature is cool. It treats hematemesis (vomiting blood), fire-toxin in the throat, various types of erysipelas (Dan Du), and carbuncles on the back (*Fa Bei*). *Baicao Jing* states: For carbuncles and sores not caused by yang-toxin or metal/stone drug toxicity, use is prohibited. Xie advises against its use; although it may yield temporary results, it risks causing cold injury to essence and blood, potentially affecting fertility. *Ningde County Annals*: For white tinea pedis (white foot ringworm), juice extracted from crushed Venus Star Tail herb is mixed with several spoons of rice vinegar. Fresh cotton wrapped around a bamboo chopstick is dipped in the juice and applied to the affected area; thick phlegm is expelled along with the chopstick. It also treats wind-stroke of the throat (Hou Feng).
Huatuo's *Zhong Zang Jing* (Classic of Internal Organs): Resembles "Ghost Belt Bamboo," forming small clusters. Grows in the third and fourth lunar months, blooms yellow flowers, leaves resemble lily. Harvested in the sixth and seventh lunar months. In the Liangzhe region, it is called Shui Rong Jiao (Water Velvet Horn). Regardless of quantity, dry it on a new tile, grind into powder, and take 2 qian mixed with wine before bedtime; recovery occurs the next day. For already ruptured lesions, slight discharge of yellow fluid occurs.
Also known as Yin Suo Shi (Silver Lock Key) and Shi Suan (Stone Amaryllis), and Yi Zhi Jian (One Arrow). *Baicao Jing* says: Shi Suan sprouts in early spring; leaves resemble garlic and are similar to those of *Fritillaria thunbergii* (Shan Cigu), with a sword-ridge pattern on the back, spreading across the ground. The foliage withers in July, and a stem like an arrow shaft emerges from the center, about one chi high. Flowers bloom at the stem tip, clustered in groups of four or five, with six petals, red like *Lilium lancifolium* (Shan Dan). The root resembles garlic, is purple-red externally, white internally, and is slightly toxic. It treats throat diseases. *Ben Cao Gang Mu* (Compendium of Materia Medica) does not record its therapeutic indications. Jin Shicai states: This is an emetic and induces diarrhea. It treats throat wind-phlegm nodules, white erysipelas, and lung abscess when decocted in wine and taken orally. For early-stage carbuncle between the shoulder blades (Dui Kou Chu Qi): *Jia Bao Fang* (Family Treasure Prescription): Crush old crow garlic, apply via paper interposition, change frequently when dry, and the toxin will naturally dissipate. For unilateral or bilateral tonsillitis (Shuang Dan E): *Shen Yi Shi Quan Jing* (Divine Physician's Perfect Mirror): Juice of old crow garlic, mixed with raw white wine and taken orally; recovery follows vomiting. For washing hemorrhoids and fistulas: Shen Huiru's transmitted prescription: Crush old crow garlic and ghost lotus pod in unspecified amounts. Decoct in good wine, place in a bottle for fumigation first; after half a day, when the liquid warms, pour... [Text cuts off here]
