*Yu Huan Zhi* records: The bark resembles that of the peach tree; if it adheres to human skin, swelling will occur. If applied to a knife wound with bleeding, crushing this bark and applying it as a poultice will stop the bleeding.
It can arrest bleeding from metal-induced injuries (Jin Chuang).
*Li Shi Cao Mi* records: It grows near streams and water sources. The leaves resemble those of the wax plum tree (*Chimonanthus praecox*), and the bark resembles that of the large-leaf poplar. It bears white flowers in the fifth and sixth lunar months. The fruit resembles that of the lychee. Both leaves and bark are usable.
It treats knife wounds and chronic ulcerative foot sores. Crushing the bark and leaves and applying them overnight leads to scabbing (from *Cao Mi*).
Treating congenital hernia (Tai Shan): *Mao Shihong's Experience Collection* records: Whenever infants suffer from hernias at birth, they only cry without visible physical deformity. It is not until one or two years of age that the condition is identified as a hernia, and various physicians fail to achieve efficacy. Using a pair of "mandarin duck fruits" from the *Quercus variabilis* (Chinese cork oak) tree, plucked together with the branch, authenticity can be verified. One pair of fruits can treat three individuals. Seven lychee seeds (*Litchi Chinensis Semen*) crushed, along with three qian of *Pingshidi Mu* (likely *Ardisia japonica* or similar), decocted together and drunk, results in recovery without recurrence.
Mu Hudie (Wood Butterfly / *Oroxylum indicum* seed membrane)
This is a tree fruit, originating from Guangnan Prefecture, Yunnan. Its shape resembles a flat bean. Inside, the membranes are thin like cicada wings. It is used after being burned to ash.
It treats heart-qi pain.
Note: *Qianzhang Zhi Dian Zhi* considers Qianzhang Zhi to be a tree fruit. According to Cheng Baowen, Qianzhang Zhi is actually dried cactus grass. Its center forms concentric rings resembling rolled hearts, and when folded, it resembles pith (*Tongcao*). Hence the name. Using seven sheets of this material, burned to ash and taken with wine, can treat epigastric pain. Yang Tonggang stated: This plant exists in Suzhou. It resembles pith, about the size of a palm. It has been used in pills to treat spreading malignant sores. Both theories are preserved here for future verification. In the "Weeds" category of *Bencao Gangmu*, Yinan Cao is identified as this plant, with identical morphology. It is said to expel pathogenic factors. Children wear it in red silk bags on their arms to ward off evil and calm fright, but its edibility was unknown.
Originating from Guangdong, it is a tree fruit. The pieces are light as the inner membrane of reeds, white like butterflies, hence the name (the edges are thin and transparent, while the center is slightly denser and less transparent, resembling the white membrane of *Biluoqian*).
Treating liver-qi pain: Use twenty to thirty sheets. Roast until dry in a copper pot, grind into fine powder, and take mixed with good wine.
Applied to carbuncles and sores: Xiang Qiuzi stated: Mu Hudie originates from Guangdong...
It treats damp-heat in the lower jiao.
