*Baicao Jing* (Mirror of Hundred Herbs) records: It grows beside collapsed walls and is especially abundant in abandoned gardens of households. It is commonly known as Dogtail Grass (Gouwei Cao). The leaves resemble those of cogon grass (Imperata cylindrica). It flowers in the sixth lunar month, with inflorescences shaped like a dog's tail. For use, harvest the lower part of the flowering stem and dry it in the shade. In *Bencao Gangmu* (Compendium of Materia Medica), under the entry for "Dogtail Grass," only its ability to treat warts, remove red eyes, and dispel evil blood is recorded, without mentioning other functions; thus, this supplement is provided.
Treatment for Ding carbuncles, abscesses, and tinea: When tinea appears on the face, take several stems of the herb, rub them until soft, and frequently rub them against the affected area until healed.
Wind millet urticaria (Urticaria): Scrape the stems of Dogtail Grass to extract stasis, avoid wind exposure several times, and it will be effective spontaneously. (See *Hangji Sanfang*).
Wool Moth Sha (Yangmao Sha): *Jiabao Fang* (Family Treasure Formulas) records: Also known as Wool Moth Sha, administer a decoction of Dogtail Grass orally. Externally, use a silver needle to pierce the red nodules, and use hemp thread to squeeze out white filaments resembling wool from within the nodules; this leads to cure. Otherwise, abdominal distension leading to death may occur.
Dispersing Throat Wind: *Caizao Zhi* (Record of Herb Gathering) states: This is the holy medicine for dispersing throat abscesses.
Zhao Xuemin’s note: This is precisely Cuivyu Cao (Emerald Feather Grass). They should be recorded together.
Another name is Centipede Grass (Wugong Cao). It grows along mountain paths and roadsides, creeping with opposite leaves. The leaves are green and round, resembling Foer Cao (Buddha Ear Grass). It blooms with small yellow flowers in summer, with two flowers per node, hence the name.
Note: *Waike Quansheng* (Complete Life of External Medicine) states: The stems and leaves of this herb remain evergreen and do not wither through winter. However, this is incorrect; it sprouts in spring and dies in autumn, so the claim that it does not wither is erroneous.
*Baicao Jing* records: This herb sprouts during Qingming Festival, growing about one chi tall in shady, low-lying areas of mountains. The leaves resemble those of Goose Intestine Grass (Pilea nummulariifolia), growing in opposite pairs. It blooms with small flowers at Lixia (Start of Summer). Harvest in the third lunar month; it is unavailable after this time. *Wang'an Caizao Fang* (Wang'an's Herb Gathering Formulas) records: Also known as Earth Centipede (Di Wugong).
Treats early-stage jaundice, and also treats deficiency-yellow caused by overexertion. *Baicao Jing* records: Use Shenxian Duizuo Cao (Immortal Sitting Opposite Grass) 3 qian, Baohe Cao (Moneybag Grass) 3 qian, Pingdimu Yinchen (Ground-level Wood Mugwort) 3 qian. Decoct in water, divide into three doses, taken at morning, noon, and evening. One dose results in complete cure; five doses are required for deficiency-yellow due to overexertion.
*Zhu Shi Xiao Fang* (Effective Formulas of Mr. Zhu) records: Used in Dongtian Xiancao Gao (Cave Immortal Grass Paste); when bitten by venomous snakes, crush the herb to extract juice for oral administration, and apply the residue to the wound for immediate cure.
All types of hernia: *Liu Yuyi Yan Fang* (Verified Formulas of Liu Yuyi) records: Crush Shenxian Duizuo Cao (Immortal Sitting Opposite Grass) and Qingmuxiang (Blue Sandalwood) to extract juice, mix with wine, and ingest for immediate effect.
Treats regurgitation and dysphagia, edema and ascites, yellow-white fire jaundice, hernia, yin-pattern cold damage (attributed to Wang An).
