Also known as *Tugumu Xiang* (Aucklandia Root), *Shan Xionghuang* (Mountain Realgar), and *Wu Xiangcao* (Five-fragrance Herb). Cong Xin states: It grows in nearby areas, the seedling is about one chi tall, leaves resemble *Bohe* (Menthae Haplocalycis Herba), roots resemble *Yuzhu* (Polygonati Odorati Rhizoma) but without nodes, and becomes sticky when pounded.
Note: The description by Cong Xin seems to refer to what modern people call *Zi Jiegu* (Purple Bone-knitting Herb). *Luode Da*, I once cultivated it in Yangsu Garden; the seedlings grow two to three chi tall, leaves are finely divided like *Hao Ai* (Artemisiae Argyi Folium), blooming with small white flowers in autumn, bearing white seeds in dense clusters, resembling *Shui Honghua* (Red Flower of Water Plant) but white in color, hence also named *Zhenzhu Dao Juan Lian* (Pearl Rolling Up the Curtain). It treats *Die Da Sun Shang* (Traumatic Injuries) with miraculous efficacy. I recall that in the Xinsi year, a young maid fell from the stairs, causing blood stasis accumulation. We collected this herb, pounded it to extract juice, mixed it with wine for oral administration, and applied the dregs to the injury site. Within the time it takes to eat a meal, the painful swelling dissipated, and internal blood stasis was discharged through stool. The variety with a fragrant leaf scent is the correct one. For medicinal use, home-cultivated plants aged two to three years are superior. Wild-harvested ones have a grassy odor; those with weak stomachs often vomit after taking them. *Baicao Jing* states: This herb sprouts only after Start of Spring, withers in October, blooms in August, leaves resemble *Ju Ai* (Chrysanthemi Indici Folium and Artemisiae Argyi Folium), with forked tips and thin texture; tender branches harvested in May are used medicinally. *Li Shi Cao Mi*: *Qiye Cao* (Seven-leaf Herb), also known as *Luode Da* or *Huoxue Dan* (Blood-invigorating Elixir). Although called a herb, it is actually a tree, varying in height from one to two chi up to five or seven chi. Pounded juice mixed with wine treats traumatic injuries, *Ding Chuang Zhong Du* (Carbuncles and Swelling Toxins); decoction for washing treats phlegm cough and *Luo Li* (Scrofula), gradually resolving over time. My note: Since this describes a woody plant, it must be a different species.
Sweet and neutral in nature. Treats *Die Da Sun Shang* (Traumatic Injuries) and *Jin Chuang Chu Xue* (Bleeding from Metal Wounds). Use roots decocted for oral administration or pounded for external application; it prevents suppuration.
Ge Zu Fang: Treats *Die Da Sun Shang* (Traumatic Injuries) and *Wu Ming Zhong Du* (Unnamed Swelling Toxins), removes necrotic flesh and blood stasis from sores without pain.
*Baicao Jing* states: Nature is sweet, fragrant, and warm; enters the Spleen Meridian; expels wind, regulates qi, and invigorates blood.
Flowers: Rubbed on teeth for toothache; treats *Tou Feng* (Wind attacking the head) and wind-pathogen conditions.
Also known as *Maolian Zi*, *Xiao Ye Jinji She* (Small-leaf Golden Chicken Tongue), and *Ku Hua Jiao*. Both stems and leaves are used medicinally.
Effective for treating *Ding Chuang* (Carbuncles), miasma, snake bites, heat-type abdominal pain, and heat-type *Hou Feng* (Throat Wind). Pound to extract juice, mix with water, take cold in summer and warm in winter.
