*Caizao Zhi* (Record of Herb Collection) states: Tianqing Dibai Cao, also known as Chuanmian Cong. This is Ye Zhuma (wild ramie).
It is also named Yin Zhu. Also known as Tianmingjing. It grows beside natural soil and river embankments. After the Beginning of Spring (Lichun), seedlings emerge, growing one to two chi in height. The leaves are round with pointed tips, green on the surface and white on the back, featuring hemp-like veins, and produce fine, fragmented seeds. When the root is crushed, it yields a slippery mucilage. For medicinal use, the root is employed; those from loose soil are preferred, characterized by fleshy whiteness and absence of fibrous strands. Note: This differs from Disong (a medicinal plant).
Its nature is cool. It treats various toxins, invigorates blood, and stops bleeding. Its functions include dispersing pathogens, relieving thirst, calming the fetus, and topical application for Xia'er Dandu (erysipelas in children). It treats chong zhang (abdominal distension due to parasites or qi stagnation), bengleng (metrorrhagia and stranguria), asthma, baizhuo huajing (cloudy urine and spermatorrhea), toothache, hou bi gu geng (throat closure and fishbone impaction), shanqi (hernia), hudanjiedu (herpes zoster and carbuncles), bites from hornets and venomous snakes, fabei dingchuang (severe carbuncles on the back), and die da sunshang (traumatic injuries).
*Jiusheng Kuhai* (Sea of Bitter Salvation for Life Saving) records: Collect Ye Zhuma on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month, dry it in the shade until crisp, rub it熟 (ripe/processed), and collect the white fibers for storage. In summer, if injured by sharp weapons (jinren), applying this stops bleeding immediately and prevents suppuration (pus formation).
*Baicao Jing* (Mirror of Hundred Herbs) records: For die pu (falls and impacts), use one liang of Ye Zhuma root, crush it, decoct it in good wine, and drink until intoxicated. For qichuang hongzhong (red swelling from lacquer allergy), combine with Zixia Gao; it is also a sacred medicine for gynecology. For dou du (smallpox/toxin), remove the skin of Ye Zhuma, crush it, and apply externally. For yongju fabei (carbuncles and back sores), dui kou (carbuncle at the nape), and all unnamed swellings and toxins, crush Ye Zhuma to extract juice, take it mixed with pure wine (without ash impurities), and apply the dregs to the head of the lesion. Cover with a blanket to induce sweating; once pus drains, recovery occurs.
Formula for Die Da Shan Cuo (Traumatic Sprains and Contusions): Passed down by Teacher Bai Yuliang: One large crucian carp, one single-nucleus soap fruit, seven peppercorns, nine Gardeniae Fructus (Huang Zhizi), one slice of old ginger, three scallion bulbs, a segment of Ye Zhuma root, a pinch of dry flour, a lump of fragrant lees, and Shaoxing wine as needed. Pound all ingredients into a paste, heat it, and apply to the affected area for immediate cure. Wrap tightly with cloth externally; the appearance of blue discoloration the next day indicates healing. *Jiusheng Kuhai* records: To treat Shen Gui Jian (folk term for sudden severe pain or poisoning attributed to spirits/arrows), pound Ye Zhuma together with Chuan Nanning (Aconitum carmichaelii processed root) and apply externally.
Xu Ruoning stated: Regarding snake bites, observe if the wound has an orifice; if yes, it is a male snake bite; if no, it is a female snake bite. Use a needle to pierce the wound to create an orifice. Then, take the tender tip of Ye Zhuma, crush it to extract juice, mix with wine, and drink three cups. Apply the remaining dregs to the wound to allow toxin to exit through the orifice, resulting in immediate healing. Discard the dregs in water to prevent recurrence.
