【修治】颂曰∶此物多夹沙石，绝难修治。凡用研为细末，以酒飞去沙石，晒
干收用。
【气味】甘，温，无毒。恶人参，损人。
【主治】心腹冷气，小儿五疳，辟疫，治肠风，通利气脉，女子血闭（《开宝》）。
疗伤冷积聚（苏颂）。凡血崩过多者，半炒半生为末，酒服，能行血止血。治血气刺痛

腹诸痛，疝痛，血痢肠风腹痛，身体血痹刺痛，肝疟发寒热，反胃消渴，及痰涎挟血成窠，

【发明】宗 曰∶五灵脂引经有功，不能生血，此物入肝最速也。尝有人病目中翳。往
来不定，此乃血所病也。肝受血则能视，目病不治血，为背理也。用五灵脂之药而愈。又有
人被毒蛇所伤，良久昏愦。一老僧以酒调药二钱灌之，遂苏。仍以滓敷咬处，少顷复灌二钱
，其苦皆去。问之，乃五灵脂一两，雄黄半两，同为末耳。其后有中蛇毒者，用之咸效。
时珍曰∶五灵脂，足厥阴肝经药也。气味俱浓，阴中之阴，故入血分。肝主血，诸痛皆
属于木，诸虫皆生于风；故此药能治血病，散血和血而止诸痛。治惊痫，除疟痢，消积化痰
，疗疳杀虫，治血痹、血眼诸症，皆属肝经也。失笑散，不独治妇人心痛血痛；凡男女老幼
，一切心腹、胁肋、少腹痛，疝气，并胎前产后，血气作痛，及血崩经溢，百药不效者，俱
能奏功。屡用屡验，真近世神方也。又案∶李仲南云∶五灵脂治崩中，非只治血之药，乃去
风之剂。风，动物也，冲任经虚，被风伤袭营血，以致崩中暴下，与荆芥、防风治崩义同。
方悟古人识见，深奥如此。此亦一说，但未及肝血虚滞，亦自生风之意。
【附方】旧六，新三十一。
失笑散∶治男女老少，心痛腹痛，少腹痛，小肠疝气，诸药不效者，能行能止；妇人妊
娠
熬成膏，入水一盏，煎至七分，连药热服。未止再服。一方以酒代醋。一方以醋糊和丸，童
尿、酒服。（《和剂局方》）
紫金丸∶治产后恶露不快，腰痛，小腹如刺，时作寒热，头痛不思饮食；又治久有瘀血，
月水不调，黄瘦不食；亦疗心痛，功与失笑散同。以五灵脂水淘净炒末一两，以好米醋调稀
，慢火熬膏，入真蒲黄末和，丸龙眼大。每服一丸，以水与童子小便各半盏，煎至七分，
温服，少顷再服，恶露即下。血块经闭者，酒磨服之。（《杨氏产乳》）
五灵脂散∶治丈夫脾积气痛，妇人血崩诸痛。飞过五灵脂炒烟尽，研末。每服一钱，温
酒调下。此药气恶难吃，烧存性乃妙也。或以酒、水、童尿煎服，名抽刀散，治产后心腹、
胁肋、腰胯痛。能散恶血。如心烦口渴者，加炒蒲黄减半，霹雳酒下。肠风下血者，煎乌梅、

吐逆不止∶不拘男女，连日粥饮汤药不能下者，即效。五灵脂治净为末，狗胆汁和，丸
芡子大。每服一丸，煎生姜酒磨化，猛口热吞，不得漱口，急将温粥少许
化食消气∶五灵脂一两，木香半两，巴豆四十枚（煨熟去油），为末，糊丸绿豆大。每

中风瘫痪∶追魂散∶用五灵脂三两杵碎，以水飞去上面黑浊、下面沙石，挹干研末。每

[Elucidation] Zong said: Wulingzhi has merit in guiding drugs to specific meridians but cannot generate blood; this substance enters the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin most rapidly. Once, someone suffered from eye nebulae that moved around unpredictably; this is a disorder of the blood. The Liver receives blood to enable vision; treating eye diseases without addressing the blood contradicts medical principles. Using medicine containing Wulingzhi cured him. Another person was bitten by a venomous snake and became unconscious after a long time. An old monk administered two qian of medicine mixed with wine, and the patient regained consciousness. The dregs were still applied to the bite site, and another two qian were administered shortly after, eliminating all suffering. Upon inquiry, it was revealed to be one liang of Wulingzhi and half a liang of Realgar (Xionghuang), ground together into powder. Later, those bitten by snakes found it effective. Shizhen said: Wulingzhi is a drug for the Liver Meridian of Foot-Jueyin. Its flavor and aroma are dense, belonging to yin within yin, thus entering the blood level. The Liver governs blood; all pains are related to Wood (Liver); all parasites arise from Wind. Therefore, this drug can treat blood disorders, dissipate and harmonize blood to stop various pains. It treats convulsions and epilepsy, eliminates malaria and dysentery, resolves accumulations and transforms phlegm, treats malnutrition and kills parasites, and treats blood bi and blood-eye disorders, all belonging to the Liver Meridian. Shixiao San (Disappointment Powder) not only treats heart pain and blood pain in women; for men, women, the elderly, and children, it addresses all heart, abdomen, hypochondriac, and lower abdominal pains, hernias, as well as pain due to blood and qi before and after childbirth, and metrorrhagia or prolonged menstruation unresponsive to other drugs. It has proven effective repeatedly, truly a miraculous formula of recent times. Furthermore, Li Zhongnan stated: Wulingzhi treats metrorrhagia; it is not merely a blood-regulating drug but a wind-dispelling agent. Wind is dynamic; when the Chong and Ren meridians are deficient, they are attacked by wind pathogen injuring Ying blood, leading to sudden heavy bleeding, similar to the principle of using Schizonepetae Herba (Jingjie) and Saposhnikoviae Radix (Fangfeng) to treat metrorrhagia. Only then did I realize the profound insight of the ancients. This is another perspective, though it does not address the idea that deficiency and stagnation of Liver blood can generate internal wind.

Zijin Wan (Purple Gold Pill): Treats sluggish lochia postpartum, lower back pain, stabbing sensation in the lower abdomen, alternating chills and fever, headache, and loss of appetite; also treats chronic blood stasis, irregular menstruation, sallow complexion, emaciation, and anorexia; also treats heart pain, with effects similar to Shixiao San. Take one liang of Wulingzhi, wash clean, roast, and grind into powder. Mix with good rice vinegar to a thin consistency, slow-fire boil into a paste, mix with true Puhuang (Pollen Typhae), and form pills the size of dragon eyes. Take one pill each time, decoct with half a cup of water and half a cup of child's urine to seven-tenths, take warm, and take again shortly after; lochia will discharge. Wulingzhi San (Five Spirits Fat Powder): Treats spleen accumulation qi pain in men and various pains from metrorrhagia in women. Pass Wulingzhi through water, roast until smoke ceases, and grind into powder. Take one qian each time, mixed with warm wine. This drug has an unpleasant odor and taste; burning to retain its nature is better. Unceasing Menstrual Bleeding: Roast Wulingzhi until smoke ceases, grind. Take two qian each time, with two slices of Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix), decoct in one cup of wine to six-tenths, take hot, effective after three to five doses. (Jing Xiao Fang)
Unceasing Metrorrhagia: Song said: Use ten liang of Wulingzhi, grind into powder, decoct in five cups of water to three cups, filter and clarify, decoct again into a paste, mix with two liang of Shenqu (Medicated Leaven) powder, form pills the size of sophora seeds. Take twenty pills each time on an empty stomach with warm wine, stops immediately, extremely effective. Ji Yao: Roast and grind Wulingzhi, quench a red-hot iron scale weight in wine, mix and take. Thirst from Xiao Ke (Wasting-Thirst): Zhu Long San: Equal parts Wulingzhi and black soybeans (skin and hilum removed), grind into powder. Take three qian each time with winter melon peel decoction (leaves can be used if no peel), twice daily.
