(Bencao Gangmu / Compendium of Materia Medica)
[Collected Explanations] Li Shizhen stated: According to Ji Han's "Southern Flora and Fauna," this herb grows in the regions of Jiaozhou and Guangzhou. Its stem resembles that of a golden hairpin, its form is similar to Dendrobii Caulis (Shihu, 石斛), and its root resembles Paeoniae Radix Alba (Baishao, 芍药). During the Huangwu era of Eastern Wu, Li Yu from Jiangxia was poisoned while migrating to Hepu. His slave, Jili, accidentally obtained this herb and administered it to him, resulting in detoxification, after which Jili fled. Li Yu used this method to save others, with the number being incalculable. Additionally, Gaoliang region produces Liangyao Cao. Its branches and leaves resemble Ephedrae Herba (Mahuang, 麻黄), its flowers are white like those of Prunus salicina (Niuli, 牛李), and in autumn, it bears seeds resembling small millet. When roasted and eaten, it detoxifies, though its efficacy is slightly inferior to that of Jili Cao. It was originally named after Liang Yao who discovered it; later, the character "Liang" was transcribed as "Liang" (Good).
