Postpartum dysentery, occurring fifty times a day: Take the feces of borers inside mulberry wood, stir-fry until yellow, quickly add water to adjust consistency, and ingest. Continue until cured. This is the prescription of Dugu Ne, Jijiu. (*Puji Fang*)
Infantile congenital tinea capitis: When infants develop sores on the head that spread wherever scratched, it is called congenital tinea capitis. [Collected Explanations] Li Shizhen said: Liu-du (willow borers) are abundant within willow wood, appearing clean and white inside and out. In spring and summer, they transform into longhorn beetles (Tian-niu).
Previous commentators often confused them with Qi-cuo (white grubs), which is incorrect.
[Properties and Flavor] Sweet, pungent, neutral, slightly toxic.
[Indications] Blood stasis, dripping pain in the waist and spine, blood pain in the heart and abdomen, wind-rash and wind-toxin, corneal opacity (Fu-yi) in the eyes. Its efficacy is similar to that of Sangdu feces.
[Indications] Intestinal wind with blood in stool, postpartum dysentery, mouth ulcers and ear swelling, wind-toxin in the gums.
[Prescriptions] Three new prescriptions.
Mouth ulcers and pediatric wind-gan: For children suffering from this condition, use the feces of willow wood borers, heat until carbonized and grind into powder. Add a small amount of Shexiang (Musk), and apply topically. Feces from other woods may also be used. (*Youyou Xinshu*)
Wind-swelling of gums: Use Banhe of Liu-du powder, Banhe each of Chixiaodou (Stir-fried) and Heidou (Stir-fried), one handful of Liu-zhi (Willow twig), and one Liang of Digupi (Cortex Lycii). Take three Qian per dose, decoct in water, and gargle while hot. (*Yuyao Yuan Fang*)
Ear swelling due to wind-toxin, swelling with bleeding: Take the feces of willow insects, dissolve in water, take the clear juice, mix with a small amount of Baifan (Alumen) powder, and drip into the ear. (*Zhouhou Beiji Fang*)
