[Names] Arrow-leaf Grass (from *Bencao Gangmu*), Lone Tiger (from *Bencao Gangmu*).
[Description] Li Shizhen states: It is found everywhere. Its leaves resemble those of willow but are finer; it bears purple flowers and pod-like fruits in summer. Plants growing on flat ground have erect stems, whereas those growing by ditches or ravines have creeping vines. The *Puji Fang* records that plants growing near village fences bear small white flowers in summer and autumn, hanging down like bells, with leaves slightly resembling those of *Aucklandiae Radix* (Muxiang). This contradicts the characteristics of *Viola yedoensis* (Zihua Diding), suggesting it may be a different species.
[Properties and Flavor] Bitter, acrid, cold, non-toxic.
[Indications] All types of carbuncles and sores (*Yongju*), back abscesses (*Fabei*), hard swellings (*Dingzhong*), scrofula (*Luoli*), unnamed swellings and toxic ulcers (Li Shizhen).
[Prescriptions] Nine new prescriptions.
Jaundice with internal heat: Powdered *Viola yedoensis* (Diding). Take 3 qian with wine. (*Qiankun Miyun*)
Rice awn stuck in the throat, unable to be removed: Chew arrow-leaf grass and swallow. (Same source)
Carbuncles and toxic ulcers: Equal parts of *Viola yedoensis* (Zihua Diding, including roots) and *Xanthii Folium* (Canger Ye). Pound into a paste, add one zhong of wine, stir, and take the juice. (Yang Cheng, *Jingyan Fang*)
Back abscesses and various unnamed swellings, applying externally yields miraculous results: Harvest *Viola yedoensis* during the three dog days (Sanfu). Mix with white flour paste, soak in salt and vinegar overnight, then apply to the affected area.
In the past, a nun suffering from a back abscess received this prescription in a dream and recovered within a few days. (Sun Tianren, *Jixiao Fang*)
All toxic ulcers: Sun-dried roots of *Viola yedoensis*. Place in a jar, burn to produce smoke, and fumigate the ulcer until yellow fluid drains out completely, which indicates cure. (*Weisheng Yijian Fang*)
Scrofula, hard sores, and various swellings on the back: Remove the coarse skin from the roots of *Viola yedoensis*, powder them together with *Tribuli Fructus* (Bai Jili), mix with oil, and apply. Highly effective. (*Qiankun Miyun*)
Hard sores and toxic swellings: *Qianjin Fang* records: Use juice extracted from pounded *Viola yedoensis* for oral administration; even severe cases respond effectively. Yang’s Prescription: Pound *Viola yedoensis*, green onion bulbs, and raw honey together and apply topically. For tumor-like sores, add fresh black cow dung.
Sore throat with swelling and pain (*Houbi*): Leaves of arrow-leaf grass mixed with a little soybean paste, ground into a paste, applied to induce vomiting. (*Puji Fang*)
