[Names] Lv (from *Bencao Gangmu*); Fei (pronounced Fei); Xianliqie (pronounced Xianliqie).
Shizhen said: "Xie" (shoe), written as "Fei" in ancient times, is equivalent to "Lv". In ancient times, shoes made of grass were called "Ju", while those made of silk were called "Lv". People of the Zhou Dynasty used hemp to make shoes. Liu Xi stated in *Shiming*: "'Xie' means to untie; its upper part can be contracted for easy putting on and taking off. 'Lv' implies propriety; adorning the feet is a matter of ritual. 'Fei' implies covering; the deep toe cap covers the foot. A leather sole is called 'Pi'; 'Pi' refers to leather. A wooden sole is called 'Xi', suitable for dry winter months without fear of dampness. For medicinal use, soles knitted from yellow hemp or ramie should be employed."
[Indications] Boiling the juice of cleaned old soles and drinking it can stop persistent vomiting and diarrhea caused by cholera-like syndrome (Huoluan), as well as abdominal distension and uncontrollable vomiting/diarrhea resulting from poisoning by eating beef or horse meat. It also resolves toxicity induced by purple quartz (according to Su Gong). Drinking the boiled juice can treat Xiao Ke (wasting-thirst syndrome) (according to Zang Qi).
