[Flavor and Nature] Pungent, warm, non-toxic. Enters the Spleen and Kidney meridians. It treats cholera (acute gastrointestinal disorder with vomiting and diarrhea), abdominal discomfort, promotes digestion, regulates Stomach Qi, warms the Middle Jiao, and dispels pathogenic obstruction and toxic vapors. Harvested on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.
When small garlic (Allium tuberosum var. gemon) is in the leaf-growing stage, it can be boiled and eaten. By May, when the leaves wither, the roots are harvested and called "Zi" (sub-root). Eating them raw is also very pungent and smelly. Pungent, hot in nature... (Text fragment ends here; original text implies efficacy description)... (Volume 29, Zhenghe edition, page 518)
[Flavor and Nature] Sweet, neutral, non-toxic. It treats internal injury, emaciation due to deficiency, tonifies the Five Viscera, benefits Qi and strength, promotes muscle growth, and fills the marrow and brain. It strengthens bones and sinews, treats traumatic injuries from metal weapons, relieves pain, and addresses post-typhoid fever or warm malaria conditions characterized by residual heat, emaciation, and fatigue after severe vomiting. Long-term use lightens the body, prevents aging, clarifies the eyes and ears, increases resistance to hunger, and prolongs life. When processed into oil, it becomes slightly cool, unblocks the Large Intestine, and treats retained placenta. Fresh root applied topically as a paste treats sores and swelling, and promotes hair regrowth in alopecia. Also known as Goushi (Dog Louse), Fangjing (Square Stem), Hongzang, and Jusheng (Great Victory). The leaves are named Qingye... Grows in the marshes and rivers of Shangdang.
Among the eight grains, this one is superior. Pure black seeds are called Jusheng. "Ju" means large, signifying great victory. Originally originating from Dayuan, hence the name Huma (Hu Sesame). Additionally, stems that are square are called Jusheng, while round-stemmed varieties are called Huma. Those practicing dietary therapy should process it through nine steaming and nine sun-drying cycles, then roast, crush, and consume it to cease eating grain, achieve longevity, and fill the muscles. Although easily obtained, scholars in the world still cannot maintain constant consumption, let alone other herbs! If not steamed thoroughly, it causes hair loss. Its nature is compatible with Fuling (Poria). It is rarely used in secular prescriptions, only occasionally combined with decoctions or pills. Raw-pressed sesame oil has the effects described above; however, roasted or fried sesame oil is suitable only for food and fuel, not for medicinal use. (Xinxiu Bencao Vol. 2...)
[Flavor and Nature] Pungent, neutral, toxic. It treats five labors and seven injuries, unblocks the Five Viscera, and addresses lower bleeding and cold qi. It breaks up accumulations, stops bi-syndrome (painful obstruction), and disperses pus. Excessive consumption may cause hallucinations of seeing ghosts and manic wandering. Long-term use enhances spiritual clarity and lightens the body. Also known as Mabo, which refers to the puffball fungus growing on hemp flowers. Harvested on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month for best quality.
Mazhu (Male Hemp) lacks seeds and is currently used by people to make cloth and shoes. Mabo (Lycoperdon) is rarely used in medical formulas; Daoist practitioners combine it with Renshen (Ginseng) to allegedly predict future events. Its spores/seeds can harm humans if ingested accidentally. Combined with pill medicines and wine, it is considered highly effective but has a slippery and purgative nature. Juice from Mazhu Gen (Hemp Root) or its decoction also treats blood stasis and calculi...
