[Helix Aspersa / Snail]
Salty in flavor, cold in nature. It treats tefeng (stroke caused by exogenous wind) resulting in hemiplegia, traumatic injuries, rectal prolapse of the large intestine, tendon spasm, and convulsive disorders.
The character for snail is pronounced with the fanqie method "li ge", but it is commonly called "guan niu" (melon cow) by the world. It lives in mountains and near human dwellings; its head resembles that of a slug, but it carries a shell on its back. This was mentioned earlier. There is another variety by the sea that looks exactly alike; when its shell is roasted over fire, it crawls out. Eating it improves complexion, and it is called "Jiju" (hermit crab). Since medical practitioners no longer use it and people do not collect it, it is unclear which one is the authentic species. (Da Guan Vol. 21, Zheng He p. 432)
[Peacock Feces]
Slightly cold in nature. It treats leukorrhea in women and difficulty in urination.
It comes from Guangyi and other provinces, and is also raised in the capital area. Medical practitioners are not seen using its feces. (Xin Xiu p. 235, Da Guan Vol. 19, Zheng He p. 401)
[Pig Testis/Epididymis]
Sweet in flavor, warm in nature, non-toxic. It treats convulsive disorders, epilepsy, guizhu (ghostly fixation/infectious disease), gutu (poisonous parasite toxin), eliminates chills and fever, ben tun (running piglet syndrome), wulong (five types of strangury), and spasms caused by pathogenic factors. It is also known as tun dian. Dry it in the shade and store it; do not let it spoil.
Pig Suspended Hoof: Treats five types of hemorrhoids, latent heat in the intestines, and internal erosion of intestinal abscesses.
Pig Four Feet: Slightly cold. Treats injuries from beating, various ulcerating sores, and promotes lactation.
Heart: Treats fright evil, sorrow, and resentment.
Kidney: Treats cold conditions, harmonizes and tonifies kidney qi, and promotes bladder diuresis.
Gallbladder: Treats thirst and heat caused by shanghan (cold damage).
Stomach: Tonifies the middle jiao and qi, stops thirst, and promotes urination.
Teeth: Treats pediatric convulsive disorders; collected on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.
Fat/Oil (Gao): Promotes hair growth.
Rendered Fat (Fang Gao): Used to decoct various ointments; resolves toxicity of Mylabris (Banmao) and Lytta (Yanqing).
Pork Meat: Sour in flavor, cold in nature; treats manic disorders.
Generally, Pork: Bitter in flavor, closes blood vessels, weakens sinews and bones, causes muscles to become flaccid in deficient persons, should not be eaten for long periods, especially harmful to patients with open wounds.
Pig Feces: Treats chills and fever, jaundice, and damp-bi syndrome.
Pigs have many uses, but their meat is unsuitable for humans. Those who eat too much can suddenly become obese; this is due to causing flaccidity of the muscles. Its fat can moisturize and luster the skin, making hand creams that prevent cracking. Rendered fat is used in all medicinal decoctions. Do not allow pigs to drink water; those processed in the twelfth lunar month last for years without spoiling. The fat on the neck is called "Fu Ge Zhi" and is used by Daoists. Its urine/feces juice effectively treats wen du (warm toxins). After eating pork and drinking wine, one should not lie on sorghum or rice straw. White pig trotters mixed with greenish ones should not be eaten. After consuming pig fat, one must avoid eating dark plums.
