Roots that penetrate deep into the soil possess potent efficacy; removing the peel ensures rapid therapeutic effects. It neutralizes the toxicity of wild kudzu, croton seeds, and various hundred poisons. It enters the Foot-Yangming Stomach Meridian and travels along its pathway. It treats Taiyang disease (diseases of the Taiyang channel), releases the exterior, and resolves muscle-layer pathogens; it treats Lung dryness, generates body fluids, and relieves thirst. Roots are harvested in winter and shade-dried. Processing should be selected on Bing, Ding, Wu, or Ji days. Remove the rhizome (Lu), wash with wine, and avoid soaking in tea or flour water. It eliminates chronic phlegm-fluid retention in the diaphragm and removes Pi Qi (abdominal masses due to qi stagnation). It disperses wind-induced itching and pain in nails and skin, and benefits the waist, knees, and ankles by draining dampness and relieving cold pain caused by damp infiltration. Its nature is inherently mobile, capable of circulating through the Twelve Meridians, making it an essential herb for treating various rheumatic cold-pain conditions.
