Produced in Lingnan, Min region (Shaowu), and Shu region (Meizhou). Its vines resemble those of *Puerariae Lobatae Radix* (Kudzu root) and climb trees. In the fourth and fifth months, it opens red flowers with five petals. In the seventh and eighth months, it bears fruit, about the size of a thumb, resembling *Gardeniae Fructus* (Gardenia fruit) but with five ridges. The white kernel inside the shell resembles *Torreya Seed*. It is harvested in July; if kept too long, it becomes oily and black, rendering it unusable.
The flavor is sweet and warm. It primarily treats pediatric "Wu Gang" (Five types of malnutrition/parasitic diseases in children), turbid white urine, kills parasites, treats diarrhea and dysentery, strengthens the spleen and stomach, clears deficiency heat, and treats various pediatric diseases as well as sores and tinea. It nourishes the human body, preventing parasitic infestation. For those suffering from diarrhea and dysentery... caused by..., combined with Aloe Vera... taken with rice water, one dose per administration.
[Discussion] The petals of *Quisqualis Indicae Fructus* (Assam Tamarind) have five lobes, and its fruit has five ridges, while the central kernel is sweet and white, making it an essential herb for regulating the spleen and stomach. Although there are many herbs that strengthen the spleen and stomach, why is this one preferred? Because... gang worms... fermenting... Wu Gang... Earth generates Metal. Mu Shi stated that pediatric diarrhea and dysentery accompanied by red accumulation are caused by summer-heat injury; they should not be used together with astringent and hot medicines such as *Myristicae Semen* (Nutmeg) and *Terminalia Chebulae Fructus* (Chebulic Myrobalan). When taking this medicine, drinking hot tea is forbidden.
[Processing] Remove the shell and use the kernel, or use both shell and kernel.
Produced in the southern regions, including various commanderies in Min and Guangdong. When planting, select seeds, pair male and female, tie them firmly with red string, arrange them, and bury them in the soil. When sprouting... [text fragment]. In April, yellow flowers open; in June, fruits form. Inside the fruit are dozens of seeds, round and flat... shaped like a turtle, with one end pointed... planted. Harvested in August. Among the *Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata* (Prepared Side-root of Aconite) category, there is also one called Mu Bie, which is *Baccaea Fructus* (Lan Blue Fruit). The kernel's flavor is sweet and warm, stronger than its aroma, capable of ascending and descending, belonging to Yang. Ground with vinegar, it mainly treats dissipating nodular swelling and malignant sores, anal hemorrhoid pain, hemorrhoidal tumors, scrofula, and mastitis. Medical texts treat stroke, wandering bi-syndrome (migratory joint pain), Hong Kong foot (beriberi), crane-knee wind (deformity of knee joints with muscle atrophy), spasms and palpitations, ear and throat diseases. It is an important herb for dispersing blood heat and eliminating toxin-induced abscesses. (Zhong Chun)
To treat Gan disease causing blurred vision: 2 qian of *Strychnos Nux-vomica* seed kernel, 1 qian of *Coptidis Rhizoma* (Huanglian/Hulian), ground into powder, made into pills the size of a longan using rice paste, steamed inside a chicken egg, consumed along with the egg... moistening the throat... as two... food items.
[Discussion] *Strychnos Nux-vomica* seeds must be planted in male-female pairs. When flowering, the male plants must be removed for the fruits to set. This indicates that during initial planting, relying on the Yin of the female, it must utilize... to avoid... causing... swelling... failing to allow blood flow to moisten the meridians internally and nutrition to nourish externally, entering here for use, only allows Yin to receive Qi from Yang to assist in transformation and generation, without being eroded by Yang to complete the formation process. Referencing Ji Sheng Xin Dan for palpitations, why is this herb needed for insufficient Heart Qi and restless spirit? Because the Heart governs Blood, which indeed aids in blood transformation. Furthermore, regarding ear diseases treated with Shaoyao San and Jiecang Yinzi, treating heat obstruction due to wind, and also needing treatment for cold-dampness of beriberi, all stem from this herb assisting the beginning of blood and substituting for the end, thus not contradicting cold or hot Qi. Its nature is neither cool nor hot; describing it as warm is accurate. Ancient formulas often use it for gout, likely because Bi syndrome caused by cold-dampness stagnating into heat leading to pain...
[Processing] Remove oil before use.
