[Ge Gen (Puerariae Radix)]
Flowers appear in the seventh lunar month. The root is harvested in the fifth lunar month, dried in the sun, and used.
The flavor is sweet and acrid; the nature is neutral. It is light and ascends, having a lifting action, belonging to Yang. It is a herb that acts on the Yangming channel. (According to *Bie Lu* / *Additional Records of Famous Physicians*) it generates stomach fluids and has a significantly cold nature.
It raises Yin Qi.
Resolves Heat.
Relieves Wind-Pain.

Capable of raising Yin Qi, which serves to unblock the Yang of the Stomach. By unblocking Stomach Yang, the stagnant Heat in the Stomach is resolved. Its root lies in Dryness, but its Qi transforms through Damp Earth. For example, Spleen...
And Dryness Qi is governed; this allows the restoration of its descending and condensing command, precisely because the Middle Qi is the key to transformation.
For hypochondriac pain, it is also used with other herbs. This shows that by unblocking Stomach Yang, the Spring-ascending Wood Qi...
Can its merit be merely discussed in terms of dispelling Wind?
In Shanghan (Cold Damage) headache, if the pathogen has not yet entered the Yangming channel, it is contraindicated. For Five Exhaustions and Seven Injuries, or conditions with Excess above and Deficiency below, even if there are Spleen-Stomach diseases during the hot months, it should not be taken.

[Differentiation and Treatment] Those that are snow-white and rich in starch are superior. Use after peeling.
It is also known as Tian Ji Gen. The whiskers of Wheat are called Men. The root of Maidong resembles wheat but has whiskers. Its leaves resemble leeks and do not wither in winter, hence the name Tiandong...
Because its efficacy is similar to Maidong, it is also called Mendong.
The flavor is bitter, sweet, and slightly acrid; the nature is Cold. The flavor is strong while the aroma is faint; it belongs to Yin within Yang. It enters the Qi aspect of the Hand-Taiyin Lung Channel and Foot-Shaoyin Kidney Channel. It mainly treats dryness by moistening and nourishing Yin.

It is said: Generally, when disease arises from Yin Deficiency and water depletion, with Fire rising from the Lower Jiao and flaming up to the Lung, causing Phlegm and wheezing, Tiandong is indeed a crucial herb.
Diarrhea and aversion to food: One must know that diseases of Yin Deficiency and Essence Exhaustion rely heavily on strong Spleen-Stomach Qi to accept and digest, thereby nourishing Essence and Qi. If...

It is said: Tiandong treats the root of Phlegm, Banxia (Pinelliae Rhizoma) treats the branch of Phlegm. The intention surely holds that the Kidney governs fluids, while the Spleen governs dampness. But Tiandong...
Based on strong Yin Qi to transform dryness, so Phlegm clears itself. Banxia treats Phlegm caused by excessive Dampness and stagnation, based on acrid-dry Qi to disperse...
They are naturally opposite. Regarding the Root/Branch theory, I do not know what the insight is.
Taking it alone will certainly cause loose stools, due to its cold and moistening/laxative nature. (Li Shizhen)
