【论述】谷精草得谷物之气余存,与其他辛味药仅入肝发散者有所不同。故张洁古用药法式,谓其入肝补气。
【修治】忌铁器。

After the rice harvest, it grows in wasteland. It grows in clumps from a single stem. The leaves resemble young rice seedlings. The stems grow four to five cun high, with small white flowers at the tips, dotted like stars. The flowers are harvested in the ninth lunar month and dried in the shade for use. (Li Shizhen) Flavor: pungent, sweet. Nature: neutral-warm. Meridian Tropism: Foot Jueyin Liver Meridian; also enters the Foot Yangming Stomach Meridian. It is an herb that tonifies Liver Qi. Indications: Head wind pain, blindness with corneal opacity (Yi), post-varicella corneal opacity, and hemostasis. (Li Shizhen) The substance is light and floating in nature, capable of ascending to the Yangming meridian territory. For various eye diseases, it is added to prescriptions. Its efficacy in brightening the eyes and resolving corneal opacity seems superior to that of Chrysanthemum Morifolium Flos (Ju Hua). (Another source) Gu Jing Cao obtains the Qi transformation of Yangming Dry Metal; its light nature disperses nodules.

[Discussion] Gu Jing Cao retains the residual Qi of grain. Compared to other pungent herbs that merely enter the Liver to disperse, there is a distinction. Thus, Zhang Jiegu's prescription principles state that it enters the Liver to tonify Qi.
[Processing] Avoid iron.
It is found in Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei, Sichuan, and Shaanxi. The stems are thin as threads, climbing on bamboo or wood, about one chi high. The leaves are thin as cilantro but very slender, with many wrinkles on the back surface. Sand-like particles are present in the wrinkles, resembling Typhae Pollen (Pu Huang). It does not flower. The fine roots are strong. Both the sand and the herb can be used medicinally. (Li Shizhen) Flavor: sweet, bland. Nature: cold. It is a drug for the Blood aspect of the Small Intestine and Bladder meridians; suitable when heat resides in the Blood aspect of these two meridians. Resolves heat toxins and vapors; treats damp-heat swelling and fullness, hot strangury (Re Lin), and creamy strangury (Gao Lin). Also Qi transformation... three qian, taken raw, two qian per dose. [Discussion] Hai Jin Sha does not flower; its specific Qi concentrates in the leaves, and this "sand" gathers upon the leaves, appearing yellow-red. Unlike flowers and fruits that emit/spit out their essence, this sand... Red is not... Water pathway disease... Its nature is bland and permeating, without tonifying benefits. For stranguries caused by deficiency of Kidney Water and True Yin, do not administer. (Chen Shigong/Zhong Chun)
[Processing] Harvest the whole plant in the seventh lunar month. Sun-dry it. When slightly dry, place it on paper and beat it with a stick so that fine sand falls onto the paper, then continue drying... [Text incomplete]
