Eye Pain and Dry Nose
The Yangming channel is governed by the dryness of Metal. The Foot-Yangming Stomach Channel belongs to Wu Earth, and its Qi transformation is influenced by Dryness Metal. If Taiyin Spleen Dampness prevails, Yangming Qi transforms into Dampness; if Yangming Dryness prevails, Taiyin Qi transforms into Dryness. Therefore, the Yangming channels are prone to diseases caused by Dryness. When Winter Water fails to store properly, Ministerial Fire ascends, causing stomach fluids to wither and spleen essence to perish. Long-standing Taiyin Dampness transforms into Yangming Dryness. In spring and summer, when pathogenic factors are contracted, defensive Yang is obstructed and closed, while nutritive heat stagnates and erupts, leading to the scorching of Earth (Spleen/Stomach) and the burning of Metal (Lung), thereby intensifying Dryness. The Yangming channel connects with the nose and eyes and runs along the anterior aspect of the body; thus, symptoms include eye pain, dry nose, fever, and inability to lie down. Among all Yang channels, Yangming is the most vigorous. If Dryness-Heat remains in the channels without venting or dispersing, it will eventually lead to accumulated heat in the stomach fu organ and gradual depletion of zang yin, posing a latent crisis for the future. At the stage before fu heat arises, cooling and purging methods should be used to unblock the channels and clear heat, thereby preventing subsequent complications. Su Xue Dan is indicated.
Su Xue Dan: Treats Yangming channel syndrome characterized by body heat, eye pain, dry nose, insomnia, chest irritability, and thirst.
Ingredients: Floating Duckweed (Sanqian), Gypsum (Sanqian, crushed), Ophiopogon Tuber (Erqian, heart removed), Scrophularia Root (Erqian), Kudzu Root (Erqian), Moutan Bark (Erqian, wine-washed), White Peony Root (Yiqian), Fresh Ginger (Sanqian), Licorice Root (Yiqian).
Preparation and Administration: Decoct three cups of water with a pinch of Coix Seed until half a cup remains, strain, and take hot. Cover with clothing to induce slight sweating. For vomiting, add Processed Pinellia Tuber (Erqian).
When epidemic disease pathogens transmit to the Yangming channel and fu heat has not yet arisen, the treatment principle is to clear heat and release the exterior. If heat is severe, lung qi is inevitably damaged; Ren Shen Bai Hu Tang (Ginseng and White Tiger Decoction) should be used to clear Lung Metal heat, replenish qi, and generate fluids, which is the optimal approach. (See Ren Shen Bai Hu Tang in previous sections.)
Eye Pain, Dry Nose, Vomiting, and Diarrhea
Among the Three Yang channels, Yangming is the strongest. The Foot-Yangming Stomach Channel transforms from Dryness Metal. If exterior pathogens from the Taiyang channel remain unresolved, channel heat transmits inward. Since fire tends toward dryness, it must enter Yangming. With Yin prevailing internally and Yang prevailing externally, fu dryness has not yet formed, but channel dryness moves first. Gallbladder Wood reverses its flow and attacks Stomach Earth, causing Qi stagnation and obstruction in the Stomach, which cannot accept or digest food. Thus, vomiting and diarrhea occur due to the oppression of fu Qi by channel pathogens.

Yangming Fu Syndrome: Sweating, Tide-like Fever, Delirium, Abdominal Fullness, and Constipation
If pathogens transmit to the Yangming channel and cannot be resolved through sweating, in individuals with inherently strong Fu Yang, channel heat stagnation and steaming leads to internal fu heat generation. When pores open, profuse sweating occurs. However, the more sweat is lost, the drier the Earth becomes; the more dryness increases, the stronger the heat grows. Fever often occurs at the junction of Shen and You hours (3 PM–7 PM), regular as the tide, known as tide-like fever. Dry Earth consumes Heart fluids, causing delirium. Dry fecal matter obstructs fu Qi, causing abdominal fullness and pain. Delay leads to the exhaustion of zang yin and depression of Ying Qi, a critical juncture for life and death requiring urgent purgation. Use Da Cheng Qi Tang or Xiao Cheng Qi Tang for purgation, adding herbs that nourish Yin and cool blood to restore zang yin and allow depressed Ying Qi to reach the exterior.
