Mao Hua Decoction (Cattail Flower Decoction): Treats persistent epistaxis. Take a handful of the tips of cattail flowers, add three *zhong* (traditional Chinese volume unit) of water, decoct until one *zhong* remains, and take orally. (If cattail flowers are unavailable, use Cattail Rhizome (*Typhonii Rhizoma*) as a substitute.)
Hemostatic Song: Pomegranate petals can be stuffed into the nostrils; juice of radish (*Raphani Semen* or *Raphani Radix* contextually implies root/vegetable parts, here likely referring to the vegetable part or seed juice, but commonly interpreted as Radish juice in folk remedies, specifically *Luo Bo* which is Raphanus sativus) and lotus root juice can be dripped into the nose; calcined Dragon Bone (*Os Draconis*) powder can be blown into the nasal cavity (Dragon Bone can treat bleeding from the nine orifices). Decocted cattail flower water can be drunk internally; moss from the top of walls can be stuffed into the nostrils; juice of Plantain herb (*Plantaginis Herba*) can be dripped into the nose; charred Lotus Seed Pod (*Nelumbinis Nelumbo*) can be blown into the nasal cavity; soot from the bottom of cooking pots mixed with water can be taken internally.
Hot Compress Method: Treats epistaxis flowing like a spring. Stack more than ten sheets of straw paper, soak them thoroughly well with well water, separate them, and apply them to the vertex (*Baihui* GV20 area). The heat application will stop the bleeding immediately.
Blowing Calcined Gardenia Powder into the Nose: Stir-fry Gardenia fruit (*Gardeniae Fructus*) until blackened, grind into powder, and blow it into the nasal cavity. Externally, place wet straw paper over the nose. Bleeding stops immediately. This method should only be used when the blood flows continuously for a long time. If the bleeding is merely dripping and not flowing, it indicates that the pathogenic factor remains in the meridians and has not been eliminated; this method should not be used.
Another Prescription: Drink juice made from Chinese Chive (*Allium tuberosum*) mixed with ink. It also treats hematemesis and epistaxis. (If Chinese Chive leaves are unavailable, use the roots.)
For recurrent epistaxis after cessation: Tie tightly around the first joint flexion area of the middle fingers of both hands using green cotton thread. Then, cut strips of cotton paper about one to two finger-widths wide, stack them dozens of layers thick, soak them thoroughly in fresh cold water, and drape them over both shoulders. Replace with new ones if they become warm. Additionally, pour four or five pots of good yellow wine, and immerse both feet in it. The bleeding will stop immediately.
Huashi Pills (Talcum Pills): Talcum powder (*Talcum*), formed into pills the size of wutong seeds using rice paste. Chew ten pills slightly before swallowing, taken down with fresh cold water. Bleeding stops immediately. This is a general formula for treating epistaxis.
Jiaofan Drink (Sichuan Pepper and Alum Drink): Forty-nine grains of Sichuan Pepper (*Zanthoxyli Pericarpium*) (with openings), and a small amount of Alum (*Alumen*). Decoct in vinegar and take orally.
Fresh Kudzu Juice: Take fresh Kudzu root (*Puerariae Lobatae Radix*), chop finely, pound into a paste, add a little water, wring out the juice, and drink frequently. It treats hematemesis and epistaxis with miraculous effect. It also effectively treats toxic heat of Yangming warm disease. Its efficacy is not limited to stopping vomiting and nasal bleeding.
Zhuyi Qibao Dan (Seven-Treasure Epidemic-Expelling Pill): Treats epidemic hot toxicity and symptoms such as oral and nasal bleeding, with miraculous effect. Do not neglect it because it is simple; it also treats various hot toxicities and gu poison. Take seven pieces of human fecal tip (approximately the size of a jujube or chestnut), burn until red-hot, remove immediately and put into cold water, grind finely, and take in one dose.
