The above are all the standard methods for treating transmission meridians syndromes. If entering fu organs and zang organs, it is transmission variable disease, treatment listed in subsequent clauses.
If suffering from "Liang Gan" (simultaneous infection of exterior and interior/Two Meridians), on the first day Taiyang (Greater Yang) receives the pathogen, immediately coinciding with Shaoyin (Lesser Yin) disease, then headache, dry mouth, irritability and fullness with thirst, pulse sometimes floating sometimes deep, sometimes rapid sometimes fine, Da Qing Long Tang (Major Blue Green Dragon Decoction) added with Fu Zi (Aconite) is the main treatment.
Da Qing Long Jia Fu Zi Tang (Major Blue Green Dragon Decoction Added with Aconite) Formula

These eight ingredients, use nine sheng of water, first boil Ma Huang reducing by two sheng, remove foam on surface, add other herbs, boil to obtain three sheng, remove dregs, take one sheng warm each time, induce slight sweat. If sweat is excessive, apply warm powder. If one dose causes sweating, stop subsequent doses; if re-dosing causes excessive sweating leading to Yang collapse, resulting in deficiency, aversion to wind, irritability, and inability to sleep.
On the second day, Yangming (Bright Yang) receives the pathogen, immediately coinciding with Taiyin (Greater Yin) disease, then abdominal fullness, body heat, desire not to eat, delirious speech, pulse sometimes high sometimes low, sometimes strong sometimes weak, Da Huang Shi Gao Fu Ling Bai Zhu Zhi Shi Gan Cao Tang (Rhubarb, Gypsum, Poria, Atractylodes, Immature Bitter Orange, Licorice Decoction) is suitable.
Da Huang Shi Gao Fu Ling Bai Zhu Zhi Shi Gan Cao Tang (Rhubarb, Gypsum, Poria, Atractylodes, Immature Bitter Orange, Licorice Decoction) Formula
Da Huang (Rhei Radix et Rhizoma) four liang, Shi Gao (Gypsum Fibrosum) one jin, Fu Ling (Poria) three liang, Bai Zhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) four liang, Zhi Shi (Immaturam Trifoliatae Fructus) three liang, Gan Cao (Glycyrrhizae Radix et Rhizoma) three liang (roast).
These six ingredients, use eight sheng of water, boil to obtain five sheng, divide into three warm doses.
On the third day, Shaoyang (Lesser Yang) receives the pathogen, immediately coinciding with Jueyin (Terminal Yin) disease, then deafness, scrotal retraction with cold limbs, inability to ingest fluids, pulse suddenly wiry suddenly urgent, suddenly fine suddenly scattered, Dang Gui Fu Zi Tang (Angelica and Aconite Decoction) is the main treatment.
Dang Gui Fu Zi Tang (Angelica and Aconite Decoction) Formula
Dang Gui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) four liang, Fu Zi (Aconiti Lateralis Radix Praeparata) one large piece (process, peel, break into eight pieces), Ren Shen (Ginseng Radix) three liang, Lian Huang (Coptidis Rhizoma) three liang, Huang Bo (Phellodendri Cortex) three liang.
These five ingredients, use six sheng of water, boil to obtain three sheng, take one sheng warm each time, three times a day.
The above are all transmission variable diseases, mostly untreatable; those who lose consciousness die in six days. If Three Yin and Three Yang, Five Zang and Six Fu organs are all affected, then Ying and Wei circulation stops, Zang and Fu blockage leads to death. The so-called "Liang Gan" (simultaneous infection) inevitably leading to death lies here! Lies here!
If no mixed pathogens, on the seventh day Taiyang disease declines, headache slightly improves; on the eighth day Yangming disease declines, body heat slightly rests; on the ninth day Shaoyang disease declines, deafness slightly hears; on the tenth day Taiyin disease declines, abdomen reduces to normal, desires food; on the eleventh day Shaoyin disease declines, thirst stops, tongue dryness resolves, then sneezes; on the twelfth day Jueyin disease declines, scrotum relaxes, lower abdomen slightly soft, major qi/pathogen departs, patient spirit becomes clear and bright. If after thirteen days still unresolved, cun and guan pulses sunken, major danger. If contracting another pathogen, changing into other diseases, treat according to damaged disease syndrome methods. If pulse Yin and Yang both excess, contracting cold again, changes into Wen Nue (Warm Malaria). Yang pulse floating slippery, Yin pulse soggy weak, contracting wind again, changes into Feng Wen (Wind Warmth). Yang pulse surging rapid, Yin pulse solid large, encountering warm heat again, changes into Wen Du (Warm Toxin). Wen Du is the most severe disease. Yang pulse soggy weak, Yin pulse wiry tight, encountering warm qi again, changes into Wen Yi (Warm Epidemic). Thus winter injury by cold, manifesting as Wen Bing (Warm Disease), pulse change syndromes and formulas as said.
Generally, when people have illness, if not treated promptly, enduring hoping for recovery, it becomes chronic. Children and women are even more severely affected. When seasonal qi is discordant, speak early, find the pathogen source, while it is in the cou li (interstices), treat in time, rarely unhealed. Patient endures, speaks after several days, pathogen enters zang, hard to control.
When making decoctions, do not avoid morning or evening, feeling illness momentary, treat immediately, do not wait for morning or evening, then easy to heal. If delayed, disease transmits, although wanting to cure, difficult to exert effort. Taking medicine not according to method, willfully disobeying doctor, no need to treat.
Generally, Shang Han (Cold Damage) disease mostly comes from Wind-Cold. Initially exterior Wind-Cold, entering interior does not dissipate. There is none that covers with warmth and does not dissipate. Not in syndrome treatment, intending to attack interior, still must first release exterior, then can purge. If exterior not resolved, and interior not dissipated, certainly not major fullness, still has cold and heat, then cannot purge. If exterior resolved, and interior not dissipated, major fullness major solidity, abdomen hard, middle has dry stool, naturally can purge. Even if four or five days, purging multiple times, cannot cause disaster. If not suitable to purge, but attacks, then interior deficiency heat enters,協热 (collaborating heat) leads to diarrhea, irritability various changes, countless, light ones become critical, heavy ones surely die.
Yang excess Yin deficiency, sweating causes death, purging causes healing; Yang deficiency Yin excess, sweating causes healing, purging causes death. Like this, how can Shen Dan (Divine Pill) be mistakenly used to induce sweat, how can Gan Sui (Kansui Root) be recklessly used to attack? Treatment of deficiency and excess, opposite by a thousand li, mechanism of auspicious and ominous, responding like shadow and echo, how easy is it! Moreover, Gui Zhi Tang drinking down, Yang excess immediately kills; Cheng Qi Tang entering stomach, Yin excess perishes, life and death key, in an instant, watching life finish, no time to count days. This is the interlacing of Yin-Yang deficiency-excess, its signs extremely subtle; sweating, vomiting, purging opposite effects, disaster extremely fast, and medical skill shallow narrow, ignorant of disease source, treatment errs, causing patient death, believing it is fate, letting vengeful souls fill netherworld, dead bodies fill wilderness, benevolent ones seeing this, is it not painful!
Whenever Liang Gan disease acts together, treatment has sequence, releasing exterior attacking interior, originally different, but obsessed practitioners say mixing Shen Dan and Gan Sui to drink, resolving exterior and removing interior, words clever seeming correct, principle actually violates. Wise person's action, always prudent and cautious; foolish person's movement, must decisive and fast. Changes of safety and danger, how can be deceptive! Scholars of the world, only pursue that conforming glory, and do not see this perilous defeat, only the enlightened naturally, can protect the root, taking from nearby body, how far is it.
Whenever inducing sweat, using warm decoctions, formula says three doses a day, if disease severe not resolving, should accelerate interval, can finish three doses in half a day. If conflicting with disease, even if having feelings, severe disease one day one night, observe fully, if taking one dose, disease syndrome still there, thus should continue taking original decoction. Up to unable to sweat, taking three doses then resolving; if no sweat, is death disease.
Whenever getting seasonal qi disease, reaching five or six days, and thirsty desiring water, drinking cannot be much, should not give, why? Because abdominal heat still little, cannot digest it, then further gives person disease. Reaching seven or eight days, greatly thirsty desiring water, still should follow syndrome giving it. Giving time always let insufficient, do not intentionally satisfy. Say can drink one dou, give five sheng. If drinking and abdomen full, urination difficult, if panting if hiccups, should not give it. Suddenly large sweat out, this is self-healing.
Whenever getting disease but able to drink water, this is disease desiring to heal. Those not understanding disease, only hearing disease drinking water self-heals, small thirsty then forcibly give drink, thereby becoming disaster, cannot count.
Whenever getting disease Jue (cold limbs), pulse moving rapid, taking medicine pulse slower; pulse floating large decreasing small; initially restless later quiet, these all are healing syndromes.
Whenever treating Wen Bing (Warm Disease), can prick fifty-nine acupoints. Also body acupoints, three hundred sixty-five, thirty acupoints moxibustion harmful; seventy-nine acupoints pricking disaster, piercing marrow.
Pulse Si Sun (Four Damages), dies in three days. Normal person one breath, patient pulse one beat, named Si Sun. Pulse Wu Sun (Five Damages), dies in one day. Normal person two breaths, patient pulse one beat, named Wu Sun. Pulse Liu Sun (Six Damages), dies in one shichen (two hours). Normal person three breaths, patient pulse one beat, named Liu Sun.
Si Sun, Jing Qi (Meridian Qi) exhausted; Wu Sun, Fu Qi (Fu Organ Qi) exhausted; Liu Sun, Zang Qi (Zang Organ Qi) exhausted. True Qi not flowing in Jing called Jing Qi exhausted; not flowing in Fu, called Fu Qi exhausted; not flowing in Zang, called Zang Qi exhausted; Jing Qi exhausted, then four limbs cannot lift; Fu Qi exhausted, then unconscious; Zang Qi exhausted, then whole body completely cold.
Pulse excess body cold, obtained from Shang Han; pulse deficiency body heat, obtained from Shang Shu (Summerheat Injury). Pulse Yin Yang both excess, large sweat out, purging not resolving dies. Pulse Yin Yang both deficiency, heat not stopping dies. Pulse coming suddenly rapid suddenly sparse dies. Pulse coming like turning rope, pressing not easy dies that day. Delirious speech妄语, body slight heat, pulse floating large, hands and feet warm lives. Cold reversal, pulse deep fine, not exceeding one day dies. These previous are Shang Han Re Bing (Cold Damage Heat Disease) syndromes.

Cough and inducing sweat, cough surely severe, frequently spitting saliva, throat surely dry, urination difficult, heart hungry irritable, day and night occurring, shape like malaria, has cold no heat, deficiency and chills, curling and bitter fullness, abdomen again hard, life difficult to preserve.
Jue Ni (Reversal Cold) pulse tight, cannot induce sweat, inducing sweat voice chaotic, throat hoarse, tongue flaccid, voice cannot advance.
All reverse inducing sweat, disease mild difficult to heal, severe surely dies.
Whenever inducing sweat, desire whole body dripping slight like sweat, not desire like water flowing. If disease not resolving, should re-induce sweat; if sweat much, cannot re-induce sweat, due to Yang collapse.
Whenever taking decoction inducing sweat, hitting disease then stop, not necessary finishing dose.
Whenever using vomiting decoction, hitting disease then stop, not necessary finishing dose.
All Si Ni Jue (Cold Reversal) cases, cannot vomit; deficient families likewise.
Whenever disease chest upper all excess, chest middle郁郁 (oppressed) and pain, cannot eat, desires person pressing it, but reversely has saliva, diarrhea ten plus rows, pulse reversely choppy, Cun Kou pulse micro slippery, this can vomit, vomiting then diarrhea stops.
Stale food at Upper Wan (upper stomach), should vomit.
Moving Qi at Right, cannot purge, purging then Jin Ye (Body Fluids) internally exhausted, throat dry, nose dry, dizziness, palpitations.
Moving Qi at Left, cannot purge. Purging then abdomen internal binding urgency, food drink not descending, Moving Qi more severe. Although having body heat, lying then desires curling.
Moving Qi at Upper, cannot purge. Purging then palm heat irritable, body floating cold, hot sweat self-leaking, desiring water self-pouring.
Moving Qi at Lower, cannot purge. Purging then abdomen fullness, sudden rising dizziness, eating then diarrhea clear grain, epigastric fullness.

All exterior excess, cannot purge. Purging then emitting slight heat, if pulse loss Jue cases, umbilicus grasping heat.
All deficiency, cannot purge. Purging then great thirst, seeking water easy to heal, hating water severe.
Pulse soggy and weak, weak reversely at Guan, soggy reversely at Dian, wiry reversely at upper, micro reversely at lower. Wiry is Yang transport, micro is Yin cold. Upper excess lower deficiency, mind desires warmth. Micro wiry is deficiency, deficiency cannot purge. Micro wiry is cough, cough then spitting saliva, purging then cough stops, but diarrhea continues unceasing, diarrhea unceasing then chest like insect biting, porridge entering then exiting, urination difficult, two hypochondria binding urgency, panting difficult, neck back drawing, arm then numb, extreme cold reversely sweating out, body cold like ice, eyes not bright, language unceasing, but grain Qi much entering, this is Chu Zhong (Eliminating Middle), mouth although desiring speak, tongue cannot advance.
Pulse soggy and weak, weak reversely at Guan, soggy reversely at Dian, floating reversely at upper, rapid reversely at lower. Floating is Yang deficiency, rapid is no blood, floating is deficiency, rapid generates heat. Floating is deficiency, self-sweating out and aversion to cold, trembling and chills; micro weak at Guan, chest below urgent, panting sweating and cannot breathe, rapid is pain, breathing midst pain at hypochondrium, trembling cold colliding, shape like malaria, doctor reversely purges, thus causing pulse rapid, fever, running madly, seeing ghosts, epigastric fullness, urination dripping, lower abdomen very hard, urination bloody urine.
Pulse soggy and tight, soggy then Wei Qi (Defensive Qi) micro, tight then Ying Qi (Nutritive Qi) middle cold. Yang micro Wei Wind Stroke, fever and aversion to cold; Ying tight Stomach Qi cold, slight vomiting heart internal irritable. Doctor considers has big heat, releasing muscle and inducing sweat, Yang collapse deficiency irritability, epigastric bitter fullness hardness. Exterior interior both deficiency exhaustion, sudden rising and dizziness. Guest heat at skin, unhappy cannot sleep. Not knowing Stomach Qi cold, tight cold at Guan Yuan. Skill nothing to apply, drawing water pouring body. Guest heat timely ceases, shivering and trembling cold. Heavy quilt covering again, sweat out and head covered. Body trembling and again shaking, urination slightly difficult. Cold Qi due to water emitting, clear grain not allowing leisure. Vomiting changing reverse intestine out, upside down cannot peace. Hands and feet slight reversal, body cold and internal irritable. Late desiring from behind save, how can again chase return.
Pulse floating and tight, floating then is Wind, tight then is Cold; Wind then injures Wei, Cold then injures Ying; Ying Wei both diseased, bone joint vexing pain; should induce sweat, but cannot purge.
Pulse floating and large, epigastric reversely hard, has heat, belonging to Zang, attack it, not letting induce sweat; belonging to Fu, not letting urination frequent. Urination frequent then stool hard, sweat much then worse, pulse slow, not yet can attack.
Shang Han, pulse Yin Yang both tight, aversion to cold fever, then pulse desiring Jue. Jue means, pulse initially coming large, gradually small, coming again gradually large, is its sign. Like this aversion to cold, severe ones, gentle sweat out, throat pain; if heat more, eyes red pulse many, eyes not bright, doctor re-induces, throat then injured; if re-purges, then two eyes closed, cold more stool clear grain, heat more stool pus blood; if fumigating, then body yellowing; if ironing, then throat dry. If urination smooth, can save; urination difficult, dangerous.
