A patient fell from a horse on his way home in mid-autumn, suffering from abdominal pain. After drinking several cups of wine, he passed stool the next morning and expelled blood stasis naturally, after which he felt relieved. This was because his Yuan Qi (Original Qi) was sufficient, and the wine helped to promote the circulation and dispersion of the pathogenic factors.
A man suffered from abdominal pain and thirst after a fall. His symptoms worsened after eating two pears. He had constipation and a sensation of blood wanting to rush upward. I prescribed Danggui Chengqi Tang (Angelica Sinensis Cathartic Decoction) with added Taoren (Peach Kernel). After the blood stasis was discharged, he recovered. This occurred because his Yuan Qi was insufficient, causing the blood stasis to coagulate due to cold. Therefore, postpartum women and patients with metal weapon injuries should not consume such cold-natured foods.
A man fell from a ladder in early autumn, resulting in stagnant blood stasis in the abdomen. He was treated with Da Huang (Rhubarb Rhizome) and other herbs, but the blood stasis did not discharge. Instead, he developed distending pain in the chest and diaphragm, panting, and shortness of breath. I administered Rou Gui (Cinnamon Bark) and Mu Xiang (Aucklandia Root) powder, each 3 qian, mixed with hot wine. He subsequently discharged black blood and vomited up the previously ingested herbs, then regained consciousness. This happened because the cold-natured herbs caused stagnation; therefore, acrid-warm agents were used to disperse the stagnation.
Chen Shiyu fell from a horse, experiencing leg pain and vomiting. After taking one dose of purgative medicine, he developed chest and abdominal distending pain, which ceased upon pressure. He remained fatigued and lacked energy. His pulse was faint, fine, and choppy. I stated: "This is not blood stasis, but rather Qi and Blood damaged by pain, further injured by the medication damaging the Spleen Qi." He recovered after being given herbs to nourish the Spleen and Stomach and generate Qi and Blood.
Li Jinshi injured his hand in late summer, with continuous bleeding, fever, thirst, and distension in both hypochondriac regions, which ceased upon pressure. This indicated Blood deficiency. I treated him with Bazhen Tang (Eight Treasures Decoction) supplemented with Ruan Chaihu (Bupleurum Root) and Tianhuafen (Trichosanthes Root), leading to immediate relief. He was then managed with herbs to nourish Qi and Blood until full recovery.
Wu Jishi fell from a horse, injuring his head, with excessive bleeding, fever, irritability, muscle twitching, and tendon tremors. Some wished to administer medicines for broken wind disease (tetanus). I said: "This is caused by Blood deficiency leading to hyperactive Fire. The best approach is to vigorously tonify the Blood." I prescribed Shengyu Tang (Sage's Rescue Decoction) for two doses, after which he stabilized. He later recovered through treatment to nourish Qi and Blood.
Zhang Jinshi fell from a horse in late autumn, suffering from excessive blood loss, sweating, and irritability. The next day, his sweating stopped spontaneously, but the heat and restlessness intensified, accompanied by trismus (lockjaw) and hand tremors. This was Yin Blood deficiency allowing Yang Fire to invade. The sweating had stopped because Cold contracted the Cou Li (pores/skin texture), preventing sweat from exiting and Fire from venting, leading to severe internal stagnation and exacerbating other symptoms. I prescribed Siwu Tang (Four Substances Decoction) with Chaihu (Bupleurum Root), Huangqin (Scutellaria Root), and Zhizi (Gardenia Fruit). After four doses, symptoms slightly subsided. He was then treated with Siwu Tang plus Renshen (Ginseng Root), Baizhu (Atractylodes Macrocephala Rhizome), Ruan Chaihu, Wuweizi (Schisandra Fruit), and Maidong (Ophiopogon Tuber), leading to complete recovery.
