Zhongxue Tang (Middle Blood Hall) refers to the hollow area beneath the lower cartilage inside the nasal cavity. If injury occurs due to being struck or fallen, resulting in unceasing bleeding and even coma, Zhubi Dan (Nose-Stuffing Elixir) should be stuffed into the nostril, while cold water freshly drawn from a well should be poured over the vertex of the head. If the patient exhibits signs of Qi deficiency, Ren Shen Zi Jin Dan (Ginseng Purple Gold Elixir) should be administered internally; if there is blood stasis, Su Zi Tao Ren Tang (Perilla Seed and Peach Kernel Decoction) should be given. If bleeding continues despite medication, food intake is impossible, and symptoms include closed eyes and sallow complexion indicative of Qi deficiency, death will occur within eight days. Fractures of the nasal bone caused by falls or blows are generally not serious.
Zhubi Dan: This elixir treats unceasing epistaxis (nosebleed), coma, dental injury, and swelling with pain caused by trauma, as well as all types of nosebleeds.
Ingredients: Cinnabar (Zhu Sha), Moschus (She Xiang), Eugenia Caryophyllata Flos (Ding Xiang), Exocarpium Citri Grandis (Wu Mei Rou), Rhizoma Aconiti Kusnezoffii (Chuan Wu), Rhizoma Aconiti Karakolicum (Cao Wu), Angelica Sinensis Radix (Dang Gui), Rhizoma Kaempferiae (San Nai) (each 1 qian), Resina Olibanum (Ru Xiang) (3 qian), Fructus Gleditsiae Sinensis (Zao Jiao) (7 fen).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Use the pulp of a single-clove garlic (Du Tou Suan) as a binder to form pills. Wrap each pill in silk cotton and stuff it into the nostril.

Su Zi Tao Ren Tang (See section on Vertex Injury)
The lips and mouth are the orifices governing speech and eating. If the upper lip is broken, struck, or avulsed, take a small strip of silk cloth, tie it from behind the head forward to bind and approximate the wound. First, suture the wound using thread spun from Cortex Morí (Sang Bai Pi). Then, apply Feng Kou Yao (Sealing Orifice Medicine). Cover the sealing medicine with Jie Xue Gao (Blood-Intercepting Ointment) to prevent it from falling off. The patient must refrain from speaking. For an avulsed lower lip, use a silk cloth strap under the chin for binding, treating it according to the same method as above.
Jie Xue Gao (Blood-Intercepting Ointment): Treats various conditions such as trauma, cuts, and bruises. It resolves blood stasis, reduces swelling, and alleviates pain.
Ingredients: Radix Trichosanthis (Tian Hua Fen) (3 liang), Turmeric Tuber (Pian Zi Jiang Huang), Red Peony Root (Chi Shao Yao), Angelica Dahurica Radix (Bai Zhi) (each 1 liang).
Grind all ingredients into fine powder. Mix with tea water to form a paste and apply around the perimeter of the wound.
For injuries to the head or face with unceasing bleeding, urgently apply this mixture around the neck. For hand injuries, apply around the arm. For foot injuries, apply around the leg. For injuries elsewhere, apply around the wound perimeter to intercept the flow of blood and prevent hemorrhage. If the tissue at the wound remains hard and does not resolve, it indicates invasion by Wind pathogen. Add Radix Angelicae Pubescentis (Du Huo) and mix with warm wine for topical application. If it still does not resolve, the Wind-toxin has penetrated deeply and the muscle is firm; add powder of Cortex Cercidiphylli Japonici (Zi Jing Pi) and mix for topical application; resolution is certain.
