Zhu Danxi said: A woman in her thirties, two days after giving birth to a daughter, had an object protruding from the vagina, shaped like a handkerchief with a pointed tip at the bottom, weighing approximately one *jin* (approx. 500g). I reasoned that this was caused by qi deficiency due to overexertion during pregnancy, or flaccidity of the liver sinews. Fortunately, blood deficiency was not severe! At that time, it was late in the year and cold; fearing damage from cold pathogenic factors, I urgently prescribed Zhi Huangqi (Prepared Astragali Radix) 2 qian, Renshen (Ginseng Radix et Rhizoma) 1 qian, Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) 0.5 qian, Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 1.5 qian, and Shengma (Cimicifugae Rhizoma) 0.5 qian. After taking three doses consecutively, the prolapse retracted, and she felt relieved only after sweating profusely. However, a piece of the protruding tissue that had touched the mat dried up and fell off, weighing about 5-6 liang (approx. 250-300g), which was likely adipose membrane. Her appetite improved, and she could sleep well. Her pulse was wiry-choppy (se) throughout, slightly wiry on the left side, yet her physical constitution appeared robust. Therefore, I prescribed Baizhu (Atractylodis Macrocephalae Rhizoma) and Baishao (Paeoniae Radix Alba) 0.5 qian each, Chenpi (Citri Reticulatae Pericarpium) 1 qian, and Shengjiang (Zingiberis Rhizoma Recens) one slice, decocted and taken for 2-3 doses to nourish the body.
In another case, a postpartum woman expelled a fleshy cord-like structure from the urethra, measuring three to four chi (approx. 1-1.3 meters) in length. Touching it caused excruciating pain. She first took Shixiao San (Disappointment Powder) for several doses. Then, 3 jin of ginger skin were mashed and boiled in 2 jin of refined sesame oil until the oil was absorbed/dried. The fleshy cord was wrapped in silk cloth, bent, and placed beside the urethral opening, then fumigated with the remaining ginger residue. If it cooled down, it was warmed by hot compresses. After six nights, the mass shrank by more than half; within eight days total, it completely retracted. Finally, she took Shixiao San (Disappointment Powder) and Xiong Gui Tang (Ligusticum and Angelica Decoction) for regulation. If the fleshy cord had ruptured, it would have been incurable.
Yongquan San (Springing Spring Powder): Prepared Chuan Shan Jia (Pangolin Scales) ground into powder, taken with wine, one fang cun bi (approx. 5-10ml volume) per dose, twice daily. Externally, combing the breast with an oiled comb promotes lactation. (See *Bencao Jing Shu*)
Chen Ziming stated in *Fu Ren Liang Fang* (Good Prescriptions for Women): My wife ate a vegetarian diet, and seven days postpartum, her milk failed to flow. One sheng (approx. 1 liter) of Chi Xiao Dou (Vigna umbellata seeds) was cooked into porridge and eaten; milk flowed that very night. Another woman with blocked lactation took Danggui (Angelicae Sinensis Radix) 8 qian decocted, and her milk immediately flowed. Wang Bu Liu Xing (Vaccariae Semen), Bai Tong Cao (Tetrapanacis Medulla), and Chuan Shan Jia (Pangolin Scales) are essential herbs for this condition.
If a nulliparous woman (a woman who has never given birth) suckles milk that does not dissipate, it can cause fever and aversion to cold. Use Da Mai Ya (Hordei Fructus Germinatus) 2 liang, stir-fried and ground into powder. Take 5 qian per dose with warm water. (From Danxi's experience)
Zhu Danxi said: Burn old yellow eggplants to ash and apply topically. *Bencao Gangmu* states: Apply Ding Xiang (Caryophylli Flos) powder topically.
